Homemade crockpot banana applesauce

I don't do much from scratch cooking, but today my bag of apples from the store broke and 3 pounds dropped to the floor. The 6 apples that hit the concrete didn't break the skin but I didn't want to give them a chance to bruise and get mushy so I came up with this applesauce recipe made in a crockpot and it turned out so good that I thought I'd share. Here are the ingredients:
6 red delicious apples (3 pounds)
2 ripe bananas
1/2 cup sugar in the raw (or 1/3 cup blue agave)
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup water
Peel and chop apples into chunks. Peel and cut up bananas. Put sugar, cinnamon, water, apples and bananas in crockpot. Cover and cook 4 hours on high. Then carefully (it will be very hot liquid that splashes) transfer to a metal pot for mashing. I used a big hand masher for a couple minutes but an electric hand mixer would work too. It yields 2 pounds and is very good. I made this into 7 servings but 1 serving of 135 grams looked pretty small. This is 163 calories.
It sounds like a strange combo to put bananas in applesauce but u can't taste them. The apples are a strong sweet taste and the bananas are just a natural sweetener.

I would not normally think to put applesauce and bananas together either.
But this looks good. Thank you.0 -
I try to limit my sugar intake-I've seen what type 2 diabetes can do. I've bought sugar free applesauce so maybe less sugar can be done in the future and substituted with something else like blue agave.0

I've seen sugar free recipes that use concentrated juices as sweeteners. I imagine concentrated apple juice would also be a good sugar substitute for this
U don't want this to get too runny and the fruit does produce a lot of liquid when cooked down. I would say take out all the water to substitute with a liquid sweetener if u want to try that.0 -
Here's a picture showing the consistency after it cooled in the refrigerator over night.

If u substitute a liquid sweetener then cut back on the water so total liquid going in is 1/2 cup.
