low carb diet started two weeks ago help

I have been staying within what they say should be my limits in carbs before I found this site now I know how many calories I should have per day. what if you go over in protiens does that help balance out the carbs that I'm finding on this site that I have been eating to much of.

    Which low carb diet are you following? Generally, low carb is defined as eating under 130 grams of carbs a day. On the Atkins, induction level are under 20 grams of carbs for 2 weeks. Also, I think the percentages are a bit off on this site. It gave me 45 grams of protein a day and that's way too low for me.

    Lisa, You can change the settings for your protien level if 45 is too low.

    low carb typically works well with high fat (avocado, salmon, coconut, EVOO, you get the idea, right?), and moderate protein. Feel free to check out my diary. I follow a Primal/Paleo lifestyle that has a natural tendency to be lower carb b/c it cuts out fillers such as grain, soy, and legumes.

    most low carb diets only count net carbs and not calories...if it is working for you, just track what you eat and watch and adjust when you stop losing

    I just started Paleo/Primal as well. Looks as though you've been really successful and have quite a bit of progress!
  • Maybe I should have been a little more precise in what the low carbs were. My husband was diagnosed diabetic, He needed to cut down on the sugars. So being able to check the carbs and calories was why this site helped. We both are following the beginning profile they set us up with. He has now lost over 22 lbs, some of which he lost before joining this site but 10 lbs was after we joined. He just recently updated to get him going again they cut him down from 2060 calories and the rest carbs protien and fat to 1800 or so and the rest of the breakdown accordingly. My main question was, what, if any difference it makes if you eat alot more protien then the recommended amount, does it effect weight gain or loss?

    I am a diabetic as well. Have your husband aim for 65% fat, 25% protein, and no more than 10% carbs. This formula has helped my numbers drop dramatically. I got off of my insulin pump and metformin because of the above formula. I don't know if that answers your question at all, but going Primal is the best thing I ever did for my diabetes!

    eating more protein than recommended could result in weight gain only if your husband is sedentary. If he's taking nice long walks in the evening or being active in any other way, he should be fine (and encouraged to enjoy some critter)
