*my story*
So roughly 2 years ago I almost lost my daughter to "Failure to thrive" and miraculously she one day just pulled through. I was 292lb and incredibly unhealthy. I thought to myself I'm a 30 year old man who is gonna die if I keep this horrible non active lifestyle up. So I looked at Emma (my beautiful lil girl) and said "if you can pull through and fight for your father, than I WILL fight for you my love". An here I am just over 2 years later at 215lbs, I am a NASM certified personal trainer and loving every second of it. I help people on a daily basis and just keep getting more fit myself. I am able to happily play with my daughter and it's all thanks to my little girl.

This is an inspirational story, well done on your huge achievement. My motivation to change was due to seeing people dying far to young, if I can do anything to prolong my life then that's what I'll do1

I literally teared up. So happy for you and your daughter.
I've already been doing this a year. I'd lost 69lbs and in the last month just got lazy. So I've recommitted myself to finish what I started. My original catalyst was having a new baby and just feeling terrible. My weight had never been so high, I hurt all over and I had post partum eclampsia. That made my blood pressure through the roof and that scared me to death. I still take medication but just one and after losing so much weight, my doctor thinks it's likely hereditary ( thanks dad), but I'm doing my part now to be healthy.1 -
Thank you very much ladies. You both are inspirational yourselves. Shells thank you so much for sharing. I'm sorry you went through all that, as a man I cannot even imagine, I respect all you women who bring such beautiful life into the world. Keep at your goals and as I always tell my clients, kick your own *kitten* lol!!0

It was a dark and stormy night, I had just come back from a journey of the soul. I'd fallen to my hands and knees screaming at any god that would listen. I realised at that moment, tears streaming down my face, that I was alone in this new journey, this new necessary journey. I lifted my head, then my chest, got to one knee before rising like a new man.
It was only then that I realised the change from Heinz baked beans to Branston beans was a switch that had to happen. For me, for my family, for my sanity.
p.s. congrats on your journey.1 -
I loved your story, OP, and I just love that pic.
I was slim all the way until I was 36 years old and got pregnant for the second time. My pregnancies were very far apart (17 years) and things were drastically different the second time around. With my first son, I bounced back to 105-ish within six months. With my second son I was up over 150 and HUNGRY all the time and so tired, and I couldn't figure that latter part out.
My marriage was having trouble, too. That started pretty early but I kept denying. I was pretty miserable, something was up with my son and I was constantly worried about him...we moved cross-country, I felt all alone...I just ate and ate and slept when my son slept and dragged myself from one duty to the next until I could sit down in exhaustion then.
I had another baby.
Then I was diagnosed with thyroid disease and all the tiredness made sense, and the constant hunger, because when you're exhausted your body screams at you to get energy, and energy usually comes from food. I've heard other hypo-T patients say the same thing. However, ultimately, it WAS due to what I put into my mouth. There's no other way to put it.
My husband refused to diet with me and would literally crunch loudly with "mmmmmmmmmms" and the whole nine, the whole entire night. He weighed 260 at the time. He would lie there with a giant bag of Doritos on his stomach, just munching with orgasmic mmm moans and I would fall down and just eat. I begged him to get on board with me and he'd snark that if I REALLY wanted to lose weight I'd just do it and it wouldn't matter whether someone was eating literally under my nose. Then he'd munch some more - chips, cookies, giant treats he brought home from parties at work, reheated giant greasy lunch meals.
Finally I begged him for an open marriage until our kids were out of school so I could be happy in the meantime and he did a 180 and decided if he got slim I'd be happier, I guess, and he FINALLY started dieting and without continuous delicious food directly in front of my face I was more able to stay on track.
Now it's 60 lbs. later and I have 30 to go. (He has lost 90.)
Of course, hashtag irony, if ANY good food that my husband likes is anywhere in the house, even hidden behind other things, he'll overeat and then talk about how duh, it's impossible to diet if there's food in front of your face. (Has never ever apologized for what he snarked all the time at me about in that regard, though.)

Such a wonderful story. I'm very happy for you. It's people like you I admire!
6 years ago, I was a small teenager who lacked so much confidence, and I had ex-friends and family telling me I look pregnant. They said the same thing to my sister too. It hurt us, but we decided to make something out of it. So we took our first fitness class... It was zumba lol. That day I fell in love with it and everything from group fitness. I did see results coming my way as I changed my lifestyle. Soon enough people started asking me and I really wanted to help others. What really motivated me were those negative comments that affected my confidence.
Fast forward, I am now a group fitness instructor at the local gyms. I teach zumba the most, but I also teach another format called Looped-IN and am certified in 7 other types of formats. When you develop a passion, it is so rewarding when you share it. Knowing that you're helping others through their journey is the best feeling. That's the case for you certainly since now you're a personal trainer.2 -
Wow thank you everyone for the relies. You all are very inspiring and love the stories. It's crazy because people in my life have mocked me & tried kicking me down at my lowest, when my marriage failed, when I was at my biggest, etc. It was hard for me to adjust to being a big boy, I grew up being a jr. golden gloves boxer all the way into college and after breaking my knee and shattering my shoulder from some dumb *kitten* T-boning me that's where it all started for myself. I learned you can't let anyone determine your happiness.
It's wonderful people like you all that have lived a life of struggles that are inspiring. Thank you everyone for sharing your fantastic and heart felt stories. Feel free to friend request me, I'd love to be friends with such motivating individuals like you.2
