Wii Fit vs my HRM

So, my hubby bought me a New Balance N4 heart rate monitor, which I love. Let me give you some background. I'm currently 286 lbs, 5'4". I've been doing the Wii Fit plus, mostly yoga, advanced step and the rhythm parade advanced. According to the Wii Fit, I burned about 160 calories, whereas my heart rate monitor says I burned 340.42. Which total do I log? I'm confused as to which one is more accurate. I'm assuming my HRM, but don't want to mistakenly overeat today. Any suggestions?

The HRM is going to be the most accurate as the Wii Fit can only go on weight and duration of exercise. It has no idea how high your heart rate did or didn't get.0

I go by my HRM. I love doing Wii Super Hula Hoop. The Wii says I burn WAY less than my HRM does - but then again I always try to beat my last spin record so I really work up a sweat! I think the Wii burn is just a general number stuck in there based on time of the activity and your weight, but it can't figure in your intensity.0

Wow, that's a big jump. My HRM and Wii are always the same give or take 5-10 calories. Maybe use the average of the the two of them.0

I have wondered about the same thing...even though I don't own a HRM (yet) some of these calorie counts burned on the wii fit plus just doesn't seem right, I mean I jog in place for 10 min. arms fully engaged and it said I only burned 70 calories? But yet when I look up jogging in place on here it is so totally different. Knowing from what other people have posted a lot of them go more on whats on the HRM then anything else.0

HRM is the most accurate.0

I played Dance Central on my XBOX with Kinect and I thought it did a pretty good job of gauging my activity level. It sees your whole body so you do get the boost for things like your arms moving.0

I so love the Wii Fit Plus....
It depends: the Wii seems to underestimate high intense workouts, because it cannot factor in your effort. While stepping, I bring my knee up pretty high, thus burning more calories. While boxing, I twist my legs and hips more than needed. When HulaHooping, I dip low from time to time.
For low intensity workouts such as The Balance Games, Yoga, and Fun Activities section (I forget the name - the one w/Kung Fu....) It seems to be right on point.
Maybe try averaging the two. But I must say, "I always go w/my HRM."0 -

I agree, go with the HRM b/c the is a gross underestimation by the Wii Fit0
