Sometimes trying to satisfy a craving with a different food results in eating too much and having the food you are craving anyway. If you can fit the cookie into your calories today then have a cookie. If you can't then maybe you can fit it in tomorrow. You don't have to go without to lose weight, you just need to make it fit your calories and learn to only have one cookie (because I know it can be very hard to stop at one, but this is good practice for when the weight is off).

To be honest I am not that great with deflecting my cravings but I have learned how to put them off for a time and if I still crave it just go for it.

2 of the best ways that work most of the time are pre-logging, usually when I see the calories I'm going to waste that turns me off or setting a time to give into the craving. If I set at time, even 15 minutes I will forget or figure out I am either really hungry or thirsty. There are so many games we play with ourselves when learning how to manage our eating :)

    Trial and error!!!

    So much this!

Sometimes I can have some water and wait a bit and the desire for the food diminishes. Other times, only the cookie will do! When that is the case, I've found that it's best to have the cookie, but make sure it is the best cookie (a wonderful home made chocolate chip, vs some cheap store brand, for example). And then savor it, rather than eating quickly. Much more satisfying that way!

One Oreo is like 55 calories. If you buy the individual packages of oreos it's easier portion control. Keeping them out of sight and reach ensures you won't eat one just because you saw it.

I have tried various things that seem to work for me: I have found a few replacements that I love - sweets -fig newtons, or dark chocolate or toast with jelly (in fact, check my diary - thats almost daily and Im down 60+ pounds from my max a few years ago. Salty - I go with popcorn usually but its rare.
