Hey Everyone,

So today my coworkers and I are going out to a food truck to celebrate 3 of us (including myself) being at our current company for a year. Its not the healthiest food truck, and I try not to eat stuff like this often, but I have no clue what to get, can someone look over the menu and let me know what you would get? Whats the best option?

I dont know if I just don't know what the food is, but none of it sounds special, or somewhere I'd want to celebrate anything....

Apparently where I live its a tradition, and its really good food, the spaghetti parm especially. I personally havent lived in my current city very long, so I may agree with you.

Chicken sandwich. Lol, I usually get a chicken sandwich just about every place I eat out.

I was thinking that too, but if the chicken is frozen I get weird about it. lol. But its probably the safest thing to get, other than a salad obviously.

Chicken sandwich without mayo. I have noticed a lot of places when I take the mayo off it cuts the sandwiches by 200 calories. I have used the sandwich shops menu calculators to see that.

Easy, look at the menu and pick the item that sounds delicious to you. For me that would be the eggplant parmesan with side of mushrooms. You don't celebrate this daily. I would just goof about and enjoy my time without worrying too much about the food or the calories. Tomorrow is a new day.

If this outing is not special to you, then pick the soup. If it's broth based, then you've hit the jackpot. If it's not, it would still be okay on calories in most cases, but I doubt a food truck would be making fancy cream and cheese based soups in artisan bread bowls for that price.

It isn't really unhealthy food just because it is not all 300 or less calories.
I would choose the dry meatball sandwich. I like meatball sandwiches. It would be filling.
It might be 300-600 calories. I would eat a lighter dinner or eat lighter the next day.

You're right, I may wind up getting the eggplant parm, having a light dinner, and tonight I already have a hike planned with my husband and dog. They dont list nutrition on the website, so I have no idea what to log for the eggplant parm.

I don't go out much since I've been cutting ...

    ... so when I do . ... I don't base my decisions on calories.

You can't be 100% on all the time.

That's a good point, and I rarely eat out, 99% of my meals are cooked from scratch at home, and maybe once a month two slices of pizza. I guess if im going to eat out, I might as well enjoy it However I think ill make sure to only eat half or something so I can still practice moderation.

If the spaghetti parm is supposed to be unusually good, I would get that. Without knowing how the food is prepared, it's impossible to guess which are the high calorie items from this list. Sometimes the chef salad has more calories than the pasta, if there's a lot of oil and cheese involved. Spaghetti with marinara sauce is often a good choice, but it depends - if the sauce has a lot of oil and added sugar it can have three times as many calories as you would expect. So just eat modest amounts of whatever. Aim to eat about half a cup of pasta and half a cup of stuff on the pasta and you should be fine - if portions are huge take half home.

This is a picture someone uploaded on YELP spaghetti parm, and eggplant parm, it looks like the pasta for eggplant parm comes on the side, but im not sure if that makes it the better option or not.

The menu itself doesn't look particularly exciting but it sounds like you've heard good things so I would definitely give it a try. We are having food trucks this week at work as our cafeteria is closed for renovations and there have definitely been some which are better than others.

That said, I'm confused by spaghetti parmesan. What is that? How is it different than just the spaghetti? Did they mean chicken parmesan (that's kind of what it looks like from the picture you posted). No, that's listed below. Weird.

The other thing to consider is how you are going to eat this - neither of the items in the picture you posted look conducive to eating from a food truck - unless there is seating provided. The food trucks we frequent usually have food that can be eaten easily with one hand, as you are also often holding a drink in the other hand. I'd probably go with the meatball or sausage sandwich from this place for that reason, but I'm confused by the wet vs dry descriptions.

Tl/dr - get whatever you think you'll enjoy and this food truck needs some marketing help.

I agree, everyone has tried it (they have an actual restaurant too) and I believe they need some marketing help. Im interested to see what the hype is all about. But I think the spaghetti Parm is literally a plate of spaghetti, with melted cheese covering the entire thing (its the thing on the right side) I enjoy chicken Parm and Eggplant Parm although I never really eat it, So I might go with one of those and just eat in moderation.

Also I too will be interested to see how it will be served our office isnt too far only 5 minutes so if we have to drive back to the office we can. We go to a food truck occasionally, but the choice there is easy and under 400 calories so I never have a hard time fitting it in.

Update, there was multiple food trucks in the area, I got a turkey sandwich without Mayo 320 Calories, and between three girls we split a 16 oz vanilla milkshake! Still a little higher than I'd like, but I chose the milkshake lol!

Food Truck day here as well - I had shrimp and crawfish etouffee with a jalapeno and cheddar cornbread waffle. Cupcakes from the cupcake truck to take home for dinner later.

    I love food trucks!
