There has to be a better way ?

So... having lost 10 lbs since starting 22 days ago... I notice my daily calorie goal is still 1660, it has not changed since I started. I would have figured the MFP would be smart enough to reduce my cals gradually as my weight dropped... but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Sure enough... I went to guided goals setup and changed it to reflect todays date and my new weigh in total current wt. Now my calories dropped to 1610... that's more like what I expected to happen automatically.
So its great that I can at least go in say every 10 lbs lost and adjust for a new start wt. problem is... the Weight lost on my journey to my goal now says 0.... which is a bummer... and inaccurate.
Did I change my start wt/cal goal in the wrong way ? Is there some other method to adjust my cals downwards gradually and still track my continual wt loss without resetting the counter every time ?

Your start weight is still your start weight...I'm not sure what you are asking...did you make a weight-loss ticker that counts down? That's the only place where your progress would be variable, and that's only if your countdown if configured in that way.
Go to "Reports".0 -
No it will do it automatically for you. I know that in the app there are multiple places for you to put in your current progress weight. Home, progress and goals. And I think if you update your current weight under either progress or goals it does the auto adjustment for you. Sorry I can't remember which one, I just wanted to let you know that yes, it DOES do it. I'm sure someone else will be along shortly to let you know which place to update for the auto adjust though.1

you don't adjust the start weight...go back in and set that where it was.
You go into "check in" and log your weight.

Just wanted to say that once you hit a certain calorie level on MFP they won't lower it anymore for good reason.0

The way I do it is to go to the weekly weight-loss goal, and toggle it to a new goal and back again. That triggers the adjustment.
Ex. 1 lb/wk > .5 lb/wk > 1 lb/wk3 -

Nope. Thats what I wanted MFP to do... but I weigh in every thursday. After 3 weigh in's and 10 lbs lost my daily calorie goal still had not changed. Thats when I decided to manually 'start over' and put a new start weight in that matched my current wt. After doing that my daily goal changed by -50 cals. So its definitely not updating after I weigh in on its own.
I'm using the PC WEB version btw... not some smartphone app if that makes any difference in functionality. The way I do it is to go to the weekly weight-loss goal, and toggle it to a new goal and back again. That triggers the adjustment.
Ex. 1 lb/wk > .5 lb/wk > 1 lb/wk
Hope that works... I'll try it out thursday when i weigh in again. Thanks for the tip !0 -
No it really will do it automatically because it has done it automatically for me. I just can't remember which weight update you need to use for it to trigger it because there are 3 different places you can put in your current weight and I think only one triggers the calorie drop.0

You need to go to your Home tab, then "check in". There you put in your new weight. It will keep track there and drop the calories.0

Ya well something is broken... at least for the PC version... because i followed those steps exactly. HOME.. then check in...
here's the list that [edit previous entries] shows me currently :
Weight 6/01/2017 270 lbs
Weight 5/31/2017 270 lbs
Weight 5/21/2017 272 lbs
Weight 5/18/2017 275 lbs
Weight 5/15/2017 279 lbs
Weight 5/11/2017 280 lbs
The weigh in's were recorded... and they are still there now... but my calories stayed @ 1660 / day and never changed. I had to redo the guided setup.. only after that did my cals adjust to 1610. But now my lil ticker thingy shows me as 0 lost 70 to go. (before it was 10 lost 80 to go)
Its a minor thing really... unless you rely on the calorie counts and lose wt for like 3 months and notice oh crap my cals... and fix it and find a -200 adjustment all at once.
for me... I just my ticker to keep showing my wt loss accumulating... its motivating to see the number grow lol. When it drops to zero..... the sadness !

That's weird. My ticker counts down based on my initial start weight. Maybe make a new ticker with a different format.
Here's the one I use:

...and yeah, a manual adjustment is needed when you lose weight. The website used to prompt you to recalculate and offer to do it for you, I didn't know that had changed. I just know to check every now and then by going to guided setup.0

also know that 1600 is Im pretty sure the lowest it will go for men, its the minimum.if you are over 200lbs you should be able to eat more than that and still lose weight.I eat more than that and have no issues, when I was over 200 I ate 2000 calories and still lost(I was sedentary too) and Im only 5'6 1/21

Thanks thats really good to know because I'm quite comfortable eating how I do now... so knowing going forward that my cals are not really going to drop much more means to me anyhow that I can sustain this long term and get to where I want to be easily enough.1 -

1500, not 16000 -

I thought it was 1600? thats what Ive seen but anyway even at 1500 for ops weight 1500 would IMO be too low. That would probably put him in more than 1000 calorie deficit.0 -
I often struggle to hit 1300/day now tbh. later in the evening... if im not over 1300... i'll grab an apple or some oatmeal so that MFB doesn't get angry and post all kinds of warnings at me lol. Forcing myself to eat...ugh. But...I'm using portions that are prepacked... I dont actually have a scale... so there may be a little variance. Not enough though at my weight to stop me from losing 2lb a week easy. Once I get a bit lower... say 240... i'll probably get a scale so its more accurate.0

Careful with anything more than 2 lbs. I mean, the first few weeks you are going to lose more than 2 lbs, but, after that you really don't want to lose more than 2 lbs a week. I made myself very sick like that a few years ago. I was nauseous everyday for almost a year after that. The only bad lab result my doctor could find was borderline low albumin which was assumed to be from kidney damage, but, no idea where the kidney damage came from (Ahem, I was also doing low carb) but it did eventually reverse. I'm not sure whether the low carb damaged my kidneys or the low calories did it or some other random thing that just happened at the same time.
I do know that I will NEVER try to lose more than 2 lbs a week ever again. Additionally, I listen to my body now. If it's hungry, I feed it. Feeling nauseous for a year totally sucked. The worst part of it was, the nausea only went away with lots of carbs. So, yeah, gained back everything I lost speed dieting.
I'm only finally starting to lose weight again, this time more gradually, about 1.6 lbs per week. When I drop below 200 lbs, I'm going to drop to 1 lb a week.1 -
I'm not really trying to be honest.... im just going at a natural pace it feels like. I think every 10 lbs lost I'll try something different. Like after the next 10 come off... I'll start looking at carbs/protien limits or sodium. right now im just kinda ignoring everything reported except for calories. 10 after that... I dunno... get a scale maybe for the kitchen... and start working on some light exercise... I'll think of something... stepping up my game and getting more involved every 10lbs.

The browser form of mfp does not update calorie targets from check-in updates.
The browser form of mfp therefore does not do any automatic adjusting of calorie targets based on user weight changes.0 -

In the Browser if you go into the Fitness profile where you enter your starting weight ect. and just hit the update button it will refresh all of the numbers for you.
You just have to do the check in for your weight and go back and hit the update now and then (every 5 lbs or 10lbs )
But yes it will NOT do it automatically, but it will refresh properly after that update button.0
