I'm new to this and just trying to get motivated to exercise. I have a lot to lose and I'm trying to do it in a healthy way. I"ve been trying to decide if I should buy some exercise equipment like a treadmill or exercise bike, but I've been reading here that a lot of you use WII or something like that. I am technically and electronically a prude (!) and have none of those game systems. Could someone explain to me what you do on WII and if you like it and if it is something you recommend. Maybe I need to invest in something like that instead of a treadmill (outside and a gym are not options at this time).......can I do more than one thing on the WII, whereas on a piece of exercise equipment it would be the same thing over and over again????

a wii is a game console. most people buy games like "wii fit" or "wii sports" theres LOADS of games desgined for exercise and fitness the PS3 has a fair share of their own too0

We just got a WII in our house and we have WII sports and WII Zumba Dance Party ( which we found for $35 at Costco).
I don't know if I would recommend the WII but if you are not a fan of going outside to walk or jog or whatever, or have been sedentary most of your adult life (like me), then WII Sports is a good place to start. If you do the sports activity like it was a real activity it actually gets you off your butt and you can move without hurting yourself. For instance, you can bowl without straining against a 15 pound bowling ball.
The Zumba Dance Party is really intense. I like it at home opposed to a class because as a beginner, I can't do all the moves they do and I modify it to my abilities. I can't jump (YET) so most of the time I just move my legs and my arms more slowly than they do. But at least I'm moving!
So, with the prices of the systems these days, I say if you can afford it, and you will really, honestly use it, it's worth it.0 -
I have Wii, but also have Xbox Kinects and use that more often, though there are some really fun exercises on Wii that I will still do like hula hoop, and the balancing games.0

We use the Wii, and we buy the Wii fit, with the Wii fit board. It is awesome, and more important, it's fun and easy. Its very, VERY simple to set up, my 6 year old gets on it and plays some of the balance and yoga games. If you have a game stop or someplace like that where you live that sells used games and equiptment, you can get a used Wii for around 100$, and the fit for around 25$. And the Wii itself it pretty awesome. I am not a big video game person,but I love it. You can play all of the old atari games from the 80's on it, the original Nintendo games, and games from other systems sometimes too through download. ( it has internet capabilities. You can also use it as a way to hook up for instant streaming for things like netflix. So it is well worth it.0

I do it often, and enjoy the fun activities and workouts it offers. It is not intense, but the longer you use it, you'll have an option to select longer workouts (for a challenge).
I do mild workouts like: The Wii for cardio, yoga, and mild strength training; Stott Pilates for a full body, light resistance, strength training; Turbo Jam for more intense workouts, and I have a treadmill that I use on a daily basis.

Hi I actually use the Wii fit plus. I love it cause I can pick different games to play which is actually working out without feeling like it. I also like to use the training portion and let the Wii pick out a workout for me. I tell it how long I want to work out for and they put together different yoga poses that work on what I tell it I want to work on. I do not like playing video games, but I like the Wii cause it gets me moving. I hope this helps you out.0
