Hey everyone starting my weight loss today. My default calorie goal is 2400 I don't know if that's correct for me. I'm 225 pounds and 5'9 I work for a guy doing fixes on rental homes daily so I am somewhat active. I'm not sure where to start with excercise I haven't worked out for 4 years. I'm trying to get to 180 pounds before the year is done. Any advice on setting up my account and moving forward? Thank you for reading.

You can set it to lightly active if you feel that number is too high. But try it out at 2400 for a few weeks. If you aren't seeing the results you want, just set it lower. YouTube has great exercise videos. I started way back at the beginning with those.1

Make sure your calorie counting is accurate by using a digital scale to weigh your solids and measuring spoons/cups for liquids.3

I'll go pick up a food scale I'm only drinking water.2

Trust the numbers that sounds very likely. Technically you don't need to exercise to lose weight. Exercise is great however as it helps you retain muscle and burns more calories for eating.1

All the formulas are estimates and a place to start. So start with what mfp gave you and tweak it as you go if you need to. It can take some trial & error to find the right calorie level, you'll figure it out. Good luck!2
