Why do days like this happen...

Frustrating day today. I started MFP a month ago... and its been working great.
But today is one of those days... I woke up had instant oatmeal pack and a coffee... around 200 cals. Now it's 3pm.. creeping up on supper time and I'm still not hungry. I am now forcing myself to eat a pb/j sandwich on whole wheat and a kiwi... not hungry... just eating it because I don't want to be stuck trying to shovel 1K+ cals into my mouth for supper just to get over the safe line.
I find this happens once or twice a week now... I really don't understand why. Its a struggle some days to keep in the safety margins.

Sounds like a great day for something like tasks or pizza or maybe quesadillas. You could get some hefty calorie in with not a ton of volume.0

Did you exercise today? Sometimes exercise supresses my appetite.1
-
I went up town for groceries... I logged it but its not much. about 25 mins @ 2.5mph pace.1

Don't worry too much about it. Hunger is a primal cue that should be listened to. If you're not hungry, don't eat.
That said, people who do enough physical activity each day usually have a good appetite.. so maybe you need to be more active..?4 -
I am pretty sedentary... it wouldn't surprise me if that's the issue.0
-
That has NEVER been an issue for me! :laugh:
If it's only every so often I wouldn't worry too much - look at your weekly goal.
Also look at more calorie dense foods or drinking your calories for a boost. Peanut butter is always a winner.0 -
I have days like this and other days when I am ravenous! I have started to just listen. On the days I'm not hungry I don't eat as much, and end up sometimes 500 cal under my goal, then experience tells me a few days later I'll want to eat everything, so I just eat a couple of hundred extra cake those days. As long as my weekly average works out I don't worry about it too much1

You can bank those calories and have a higher day another time during the week. Friday night pizza, maybe. Just don't be too shocked at the higher scale reading on Saturday! It will drop back down.2

Just... be careful. If you have a couple of days like this a week, EVERY WEEK, you may want to talk to your doctor.fromaquasar1 wrote: »As long as my weekly average works out I don't worry about it too much

You can send them my way! I'll gladly take care of some extra calories. I don't think I've ever had a "not hungry" day - if it was rare, I'd save calories for another day. If it's becoming a regular thing I'd perhaps try and find a pattern.0

So..... Why are you eating if you are not hungry?

Because everything I've ever heard or read about weight loss indicates that consuming less than 1200 cals a day is supposedly unhealthy and can cause problems. So I force myself to get at least that much in me per day.0 -
Well if you're struggling to consume 1200 calories a day how on earth did you become overweight?1

males are supposed to consume no less than 1600 calories, 1200 is for women who are short/sedentary or elderly or a combo of the 3.if you cant eat 1200 calories now then how did you become overweight? I am not trying to be rude, I ask because I cant see how a person cannot get at least 1200 calories in if they were overweight before eating a lot more. the reason its unhealthy and too fast of weight loss can cause health issues like gall stones,hair loss, loss of lean mass(including muscle) and because its hard to get enough of the right macros and micros(nutrients) eating so little,and it can cause deficiencies and so on.0 -
I'm actually surprised you didn't have an appetite after reading the first sentence. Oatmeal packets? For 150cals you can do old fashioned oats (they take next to no time and haven't been overly processed like instant) and then add whatever you want to them, which would help up the calories and satisfaction on more normal days where you have an appetite. Men aren't supposed to go under 1500. Eat more calorie dense foods if you're having problems.0

@CharlieBeansmomTracey I thought it was 1500 for men's minimum.
@smn888 You haven't logged your PB&J yet.
I figured yesterday would be such a day for me. I wasn't hungry and I was hanging out in the community forums and decided to fix the Elvis pizza, but couldn't find our brown sugar. Another link I followed while hanging out had a description of a spinach and feta pizza, which I knew I had. So I made one. A: It was divine. B: It filled my calories for the day.0 -

The PB+J is logged.... not sure when i got around to it... but I got in in there before midnight lol.
How did I become overweight.... well that's embarrassing.... truth is I had horrible eating habits prior to MFP and reading the nutrition labels. LOTS of hamburgers, poutine, pizza... potato chips, soda pop. Just ridiculous portions too. I know it wasn't uncommon for me to take a delicio frozen pizza (XL) cook it... and eat the whole thing as 1 meal. I used to joke with my sister that the poutine clogged my veins... and that my heart had to work extra hard to pump my blood.... thus poutine was good for me because I was exercising my heart... She was not at all amused.
Anyhow... after years and years of slow and steady weight gain I started to finally 'feel' fat. I run out of breath bending over to tie my shoes, I cant find pants that fit in clothing stores... and generally I am starting to feel like my health is starting to turn on me. So I just got serious about losing weight... I guess I'm spontaneous like that. I signed up to MFP (my sister suggested it) and I started logging food and looking at labels. What I saw on the labels and the numbers were real eye openers, I couldn't believe how much I was eating.. I'm actually shocked I'm not larger that what I am. I made some immediate changes, no pop, no junk food, no more salt shaker, reduce coffee intake by about half and of that I went from 2 tsp of sugar to 1 per cup. I also started eating more chicken and fish and stopped eating hamburger. No poutines/pizzas or any of that crap. No more pasta either... its just too many cals. By changing what I eat I find I'm just as full as before.. but drastically reduced calories/day. I also spread them out over 3 meals rather than the just 1 or 2 a day I used to have.
The short answer of how I got fat.... I guess I was just lazy, unmotivated and really very naive and unknowledgeable about what I was eating and how it would affect me long term.

yeah that will do it lol thats how I got fat. but for me I was eating whatever my kids would leave untouched as I didnt want to waste food. I also became less active.I know what its like to not be able to breathe doing normal everyday things. once I could no longer do the things I used to do is when I decided enough was enough just like you. I weigh all my food and was shocked at how much labels can be off. and that spoon of peanut butter? yeah it was more like 2 servings instead of 1. so yeah the scale for me has been a life saver in more ways than one.had I never bought one I may not have kept off most of what I lost0
