Fasting/Flushing for Medical Procedure- need ..er, encouragement

I have to fast on Monday, nothing but clear liquids, for a colonoscopy on Tues. To make matters worse, I have to do a Flush Prep. In short, I will not be able to eat AND I will prob crap my guts out. TO be honest, I am actually more concerned with the fasting part. I can eat or drink NOTHING after midnight. I finagled the doc to admit I can have sips of water, which is good because I am on so many antihistamine it's a wonder I am not a dried up husk in the corner.
Addititionally, I have not slept through the night with out eating or drinking something in almost ten years. I can't sleep if I am hungry. I get miserable and nauseous if it's been too long since I ate. In short, I am DREADING this.
Any words of encouragement or advice are welcome!

I take it your colonoscopy is tomorrow if you are fasting from midnight Monday? What time is the procedure on Tuesday? Just wondering how many hours you have to fast for. Agreed drinking sips of water will do something towards keeping hunger pangs away.

Double check the directions for the clear liquids with your doctor. Every time I have done a colonoscopy prep (which, unfortunately, is many times) I have been able to have some types of jello, gummy candies, etc. It's not a really fun day, but it's better than just liquids. At least it gives you something to sort of chew.

And the prep, while not pleasant, really isn't all that bad. Don't build it up in your mind to be worse than it is.

    Best of luck!

Oh no. Drinking sips will do nothing for my hunger. I know my body too well. But at least I won't be parched as well! lol The procedure is Tues morning. All Monday is a clear fluid diet. I take the Prep solution (the first one) at 4 or 5 pm.

I have a sheet. It specifically forbids jello :( And said to stay away from any liquids with red, orange, or purple colors. :(

I'm sure those colours would show up rather alarming in the scope!

    Clear broths might help?

Yes, until the total fast at midnight, I will be drinking broths, gatorage, and ginger ale. lol

As someone who gets it every year, the prep is worse than the procedure. You just have to suck it up until then, and hopefully you can enjoy a feast after. Good luck!

The prep did a stellar job of clearing me out. I prepped in a motel room and that was no fun. At least I could see the television from the "throne".

You will be getting up all night to the can anyways. You won't have much time to sleep or worry about food.

The one product I wished I'd packed for that motel room was Vaseline. You want to protect those delicate tissues....in advance.

Been there done that! add crystal light or another sugar free CLEAR sweetener to the prep. And stay hydrated.
have a clear broth, both broth has more calories.
DONT feast after, and then move on. Just eat a good meal.

Ahhh man. I neversleep through the night anyway, but if I'm awake and hungry, I'm gonna be pissed. lol

I have been doubling down on raw veggies so I think I will be fairly empty in advance. No meat today either. Only simple carbs and stuff. SO I am hoping, like you said, AmyRebecca, I will be mostly done by bedtime. And Sabine, just curious why you say no feast afterwards. Does it go right through you or something? lol

Well, I had the colonoscopy. I have ulcerative colitis. My doc didn't make it sound like this would be chronic for me but I am having a few issues with the treatment options he gave me, namely that there were too few, and one of them cost 632$ out of pocket!!! The other is a long course of enemas. No, no, no.

Unfortunately hate to be a bearer of bad news but all IBD is chronic but I'm assuming you're in the mild-moderate range. I personally have crohn's. There are new treatment options coming out all the time but most of those are for more severe disease (biologics) and are way more than $632
