is your plan too restrictive so that you are ravenous come dinner?
- Have a snack within your goals before dinner.
- Reduce the deficit you are working with if you are constantly hungry
- Find the determination to stick with your plan1 -
Nothing inherently wrong with ice cream. How much did you go over by?0

When you were making dinner did you think about how great you've done all day on your plan?0

This happens to me too some days...how far did you go over? What were you thinking/feeling at the time? (You don't have to answer here just take note of it) We're you too restrictive earlier in the day (typically what caused it for me honestly). Try rebalancing your calorie allotment for meals if that sounds like it was the case.1

That has happened to me too when I'm anxious, stressed out, in a hurry, or feeling pressured in some way. Once I start heading in the direction of eating mindlessly, it's hard to pull back and reverse. I'm trying to develop strategies to delay eating if I'm feeling stressed and have the urge to be careless. If I'm truly hungry, I eat a little something with protein instead of a "trigger food". Then I take some time by myself to relax and do some deep breathing and mindfulness meditation. During this time, I often realize what's bothering me and try to minimize it's impact on me. This process takes only a few minutes and makes a world of difference in my attitude toward eating. With practice, I'm getting more successful at realizing when I need to give myself a time out.1

Basically, if I want a snack, it's better for me to find something that fits my plan than to keep telling myself I can't indulge. Find some snacks that you can enjoy without going over your calorie budget.
I've got more of a salt tooth than a sweet tooth and I keep a supply of popcorn on-hand. And I log before I eat, so I can see how it fits into my remaining calories. When I do want something sweet, Quaker Corn Squares cereal works. Something cold? Besides lower-calorie ice creams, think Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches, popsicles, granitas/slushes... Back when I did Weight Watchers, they suggested we freeze grapes and suck on them. I never tried it, but it could be an option. And if nothing but ice cream will do? Then have a moderate portion, log it and move on.0 -
1) Review your plan. Does it provide you with enough calories, nutrients and ENJOYMENT?
2) Don't buy any foods you don't want to eat. Instead, plan meals you want to eat.
3) You can indeed control your eating. Nothing jumps into your mouth (if it does, spit it out, it's a bug or a frog).
4) Don't think so much about controlling and being crazy and disappointing yourself. Food is good, and good habits/structure/mindset can make it quite easy to eat well. Work on those things.0
