Is it a good idea to change your goals once you see progress

I've recently lost a stone and now i want to up my game. So ive edited my goals so my cals are down to 1400 odd a day. The idea being i'll need to do a little exercise each day to be able to stay in my cals.
1600 was what i was eating before and i was finding it quite easy....
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry - bad advice!0

It's up to you,but I personally wouldn't do that. If you're losing weight the way things are going, why would you eat less? You can always do that when you stop losing weight? It's quite difficult to stay on a diet/lifestyle change long term. I wouldn't make it any more difficult than it needs to be.0

1400 is pretty low for a guy. How tall are you and what are your current and goal weights?0

This. We need more info dude!0 -
Plus, I've only ever heard of UPPING your calories as you near your goal. Eating too little = plateaus. Your metabolism falls asleep. Dreadful.0

i think that's a really good comment. you're weight loss will naturally slow down the more you loose, so cut back when that happens to spur it on a bit. If you cut back now you'll make it harder for yourself later on. and it's working now so i'd stick with it

I agree that 1400 cals is very low for a guy, so I just had a nosy at your diary!
Dude - where is all your fruit / veg / salad????
You may sticking to your calories but (In my opinion) you are not getting your calories from the right types of food.0 -
You guys are the experts here !

Well at least you have lost some weight living on Domino's LOL!!
Set your goal to 1lb per week, that is the recommended and you don't have much weight to lose? Your calories will go up but IMO a 5ft 10in lad needs to be on more thna 1400 calories!!
As for the fruit / salad and veg - I cannot believe there is not any you like? Come ont here must be some?
How about making your own [healthy] pizza?
Do you like Chinese? If so you can make your own [healthy] stir-fries.
I even make healthy curries...
Do you like yoghurts? what about low cal dips like hummus? Cereals?0 -
When i say there's no veg i like thats not strictly true. It just cant be the main focus in my meals if you no what i mean, stir frys/pizza/soup etc im perfectly ok with.
The weird thing is my GF is a veggy !!! lol
I don't snack too much so probably wouldn't start snacking on fruit
Totally open to ideas though, i think my downfall is preparation when it comes to my meal - Time, motivation the usual excuses0 -
By decreasing your caloric intake, you will lose weight by losing muscle, then losing muscle will slow your metabolism and decrease your BMR making it harder to lose. Men really shouldn't go below 1500-1700 calories. In reality, you should be increasing your calories if you are exercising and developing muscle. I have increased my calories by 800 over the past 6 months. I have lost 33% of my body fat. I was 18% and now I am 12%. The lower i get, the more lean body mass (LBM) I develop and my BMR goes through the roof. The best thing to do is have a good workout program that consist of cardio and weight training. if you do this and feed your body the calories it needs, then weightloss will happen; this weight loss is by losing fat and not critical muscle. Here is two phrases to live by: Food is fuel and muscle burns fat.0

If I left my OH to plan his own dinner everyday he'd live on peanut butter sandwiches LOL!! He doesn't get any pleasure at all from preparing and cooking a nice meal...
However I am trying to beat it into him and he can now make a healthy fry-up (under 500 cals!), he makes a lovely Omelette and also makes a mean steak!!
Other than that I am the chef though.
I tend to go for things that are quick (I commute 2 hours a day) and light. So things like chicken stir-fries, turkey [or veggy] curries, chilli and spag bol - I make a lot of things in bulk and freeze them in portions. I also do lots of variations of spicy chicken breasts with cous-cous or new potatoes
I also make sure every evening meal has a side of either salad or veg.
I also go easy on the carbs!0 -

I should take more time to make better meals, for sure. But today for example i started work at 9 finish at 5.30 start my next job at 6 and finish at 12.30. Im not moaning cause im more than happy to work for the money i need but how do i eat well around this kind of time frame? I use alot of my spare time to exercise should i take some of this time to prepare and freeze meals?0 -

Preparing and freezing meals is the best approach because if you can't make your diet better, then it will be hard to make a healthy lifestyle.0
