So I play the clarinet and noticed that MFP says that playing an instrument burns calories. Is this true, because if so this will be a fun workout!

Everything burns calories. Just being alive burns calories. That doesn't mean everything should be logged. Personally I wouldn't log it as exercise.

    Everything burns calories.

In general sitting burns more than lying down. Standing burns more than sitting. Is it alot more? No.

On the other hand, my high school daughters start marching band camp in the middle of July. 9am-9pm practice days, with an hour for lunch and a 2 hour dinner break. Morning and evening will be spent learning, practicing drill and afternoons are inside working on music. (So they are not in the sun during hottest part of the day.) They burn a ton of calories, I'm sure...

I'm sure playing the drums burns them up. Can work up a good sweat pounding on mine for a half HR or more.

Guitar not so much as the only things moving are my wrists and fingers.

I read about a guy who gained weight eating his banjo calories back. Turns out his fit bit thought he was walking great distances.

breathing burns calories you gonna log that too?

if you log it remember it gives you extra calories to eat...but it really should be part of your activity level...

Because if you play now chances are you played before and it didn't help you lose then so why would it now?

I wouldn't log this, this is something you can become highly efficient at and would burn less calories than you think.
