I want to exercise to get slimmer/skinner thighs, waist etc. but I find I am more prone to building muscle instead. I don't want to be muscly. What can I do?

Eat in a deficit2

Eat in a deficit and do cardio. It takes a lot of effort and strength training to build muscle. Perhaps with weightloss you have uncovered some of the muscle you already had.5

That's what I'm guessing. The loss of visceral fat has revealed the underlying muscle. What the OP has interpreted as muscle-building is, in effect, getting ripped.1 -
You're not going to get muscly when you're dieting...0

You won't build significant muscle at a deficit..but you can maintain and reveal muscle under the fat. If you are that concerned, do more cardio vs weights.0
