Hi all
Im 5 foot 7 male and weighing my heaviest at 13 stone.
I am aiming to get back to atleast 10st. My weight gain is due to eating loads of takeaways ( atleast 5 a week ) and a heavy drinker of coca cola.
So i have changed my diet so no i am only drinking water and eating stuff like weetabix, eggs, toast.
how much water is good to drink a day for me?
Can anyone give me an insight as what healthy eating you do on a daily basis?
Just so i dont get bored of same things everyday.
Im looking to loose weight but also what to tone up a little as well. At the minute i just started the c25k run so am doing minimum of 30 minutes a day running also work full time which also involves walking.
Any feedback or suggestions would be great.
Thanks
Steve

13 stone, that's 83kg, and a BMI of around 29. Not too serious, but you can't let it get out of hand.
I'd look at cutting out the Coke. If there are other things high in sugar in your diet you might like to curtail those as well. Don't change to fruit juice because it's just as bad. This may well be all you need to do.1 -
Weetbix, eggs and toast sounds like a bland and boring diet. You don't need to rid your diet if everything enjoyable; quite the opposite. You'll have more success if you're eating tasty food you enjoy, that makes you feel good whilst reaching your goals.
Your weight gain is from eating too many calories. People successfully incorporate take away in to their weight loss diets, they just control how much, and make it fit their calories. It can often be calorie dense though, so you might decide its not worth the calorie "spend".
I personally feel the most satisfied and satiated eating quite a lot of protein, loads of vegies (starchy and non starchy - lots of fibre), a sufficient amount of fats (from nuts, meat/fish/eggs, avo, cheese, chocolate, butter and oils), plus some fruit and low fat dairy... I eat very little cereal/grains/bread not because I'm avoiding them, just because I prefer other stuff. Weekends are more flexible and I'll enjoy stuff like Pizza, burgers, pancakes, pasta etc
If you like cola, or fizzy drinks, swap to diet versions.
Toning up comes from losing fat, enabling the muscles to be more defined. That said, I'd probably recommend lifting weights to help retain muscle as you lose. At 10st youre likely to have very little muscle for a 5ft7 man (in my opinion as a 10st 5ft5 woman) so you'd want to keep as much as you can!5 -
Thanks for your replys guys.
So like i said i run for 30 mins a day ( this will get more as i get further into the training program im using ).
Other than this though how would i get rid of the belly a little bit as well as toning my belly and arms up.
At the minute i cant go to gym as i am so unfit thats why i started running but is there owt else that will help that i could possibly do without gym?
Thanks

Not going to the gym because you're unfit makes no sense... go to the gym to GET fit.....4 -
I agree with the previous poster. Go to the gym to get fit. Unless it's a gym that charges ridiculous fees to people who want to walk around being cute, you will see results if you want to try a gym. Some don't do gym's but I like mine because it's close and convenient to work. I go to the YMCA and it's not glamorous but I love it because we all have a common goal.
Good luck.0 -
When i said i cant go to gym cos im unfit i mean because i dont wanna look stupid getting out of breath too quick. Also at the minute my work schedule doesnt allow me to get to gym.
Other than gym what can i do besides running that will help.0 -

You just started C25K and are already running 30 min??? I kinda hate you. I have week 5 day 3 tomorrow and am so nervous to attempt 20 min of straight running for the first time.1

Nobody at the gym cares and some will wish they had your body composition because they are far heavier. I am 5'9" and was 22.9 stones when I got back in the gym. Nobody cared. I am now 12.7 stones with abs and a 30" waist and nobody cares.
Cardio is great for your health and for burning calories but weight lifting is king for body composition and you need to start now or you will, without question, start losing some of the muscle you have now. The time to start lifting was yesterday.1 -
Yeah, no one at the gym cares. And if they do, who cares?
Get in the gym and lift!
Or start at home with push-ups, sit-ups, pull ups (prison style workouts).
Eat a balanced diet of whatever you want without going over your calories.2 -

Pffft, I'm female and went from 230 pounds to 200 pounds at the gym in the swimming pool. In a hideous bathing suit. Talk about self conscious! But I got over it and so can you
I recommend you do join a gym and take a few sessions with a personal trainer who can get you going with a progressive overload weight lifting program and help you with proper form.
But if you must do it at home, look into bodyweight program like 'Convict Conditioning' or 'You are Your Own Gym.'2
