I've been going to the gym twice a day one in the morning and one after work. I've been steadily losing 2lbs a week. It wondering if working out twice a day is making a difference or not?

if you are burning calories, of course its making a difference. are you tracking your food and your exercise in the app?
you may burn out and you should be careful to allow your body proper rest to recover or you will surely burn out or get injured. Slow and steady wins the race.4 -
I've been tracking my food but not really my exercise as it's hard for me to calculate calories burned when I'm at a class or at personal training0
-
why do you feel the need to do two a days? you hit weights once and cardio the other time?0
-
Basically yeah, weights in the am then a run at night. I don't want to end up doing more damage than good0

If your personal training is with a personal trainer, you can use the "strength training" under cardio to postulate a calorie burn for that. The calorie burn for your cardio is also something you should log as it gives you good information about just how much you need to eat to keep your muscles intact for best results with the personal training while you try to lose weight. If you weigh over 200 lb, 2 lb per week is ok. If you weigh less than 200 lb, a rate of loss of 2 lb per week indicates that you are burning your candle too bright.3

Are you doing this every day? That is quite a lot. You need to allow for recovery. Also, unless you have steadily built up to it, running every day is a good way to end up with an injury. There are both mental and physical dangers of working out this much. I feel like if you are asking if it's too much, then it probably is.6 -
Thank you all for writing back. I'll take note and allow my body recovery time0

Twice a day isn't necessarily too much for a conditioned athlete, as long as you allow for some rest days. Of course, this also depends on the intensity and duration of one's workout.
For most beginners though, I'd wager that it's a bit much.2 -
I think it's fine. I do two a days. I do cardio in the a.m. and weight lifting in the p.m. I do take an entire day off to recover and I make sure to listen to my body. But, as long as you feel ok, it's alright. I guess it also depends on how active you are during the day. It works for me since I'm a sahm and don't do heavy work throughout the day. And it's not super intense workouts both times. Also remember to take some breaks where you aren't doing two a days for a week or two...0

I guess the questions should be, how long or what distance are you going when you run? 2 miles, 13? Then my answer might change. How much time are you spending lifting weights? 30 minutes? 2 hours? Then my answer might change.0

What is your height, goal weight, weight now, age?
How many calories are you eating, and what was the loss per week you entered into MFP?
Though your exercise in itself isn't excessive, if you aren't fuelling your workouts you may be undereating.
This could lead to burn out- both diet and exercise,
general lethargy in everyday life- conserving energy on the couch so you can make the exercise,
underperforming when exercising- progression slow.
ie: If you entered info into MFP to lose 1 lbs a week but are losing 2, you may want to add 500 cals to your daily intake.

I used to workout twice a day during this one summer when I had nothing else to do that didn't cost money. I choose to stop because I didn't think it was sustainable long term. Time wise.
If you keep it up, just make sure you are fueling your body.0 -
When I work 6 days a week, I get really tired to the point of seating in lounge and falling asleep while my kids are at the child care!1

It depends on how you're feeling and if you have aches and pains from doing too much, but if it's just weights in the morning and cardio in the evening, then it sounds reasonable. Then again, only you know if it's too much. I assume it is since you're asking us.
And since you're asking if working out twice a day made a difference in the 2 lbs. loss a week - that's just a matter of diet or eating less (less than maintenance). It's not necessary, but I think it's good to experiment and figure that out on your own. You can try it for a month or two, but you might burn out eventually like the others said.

I workout twice a day several times per week. It depends on the intensity and duration of your workouts.0
