Well to start with I was not one for walking, as an exercise, I do quite a bit of cycling! But this week I have decided to start back at the 30DS and I am also doing a 20 minute walk on top of that. But It was yesterday that I noticed that my right ankle is giving me some trouble! Its the outside (right hand side) of my right ankle! It feels almost like something is pulling or stretching inside my ankle!! Does anyone have any idea what it might be?? I have been walking on a treadmill at 6kph on incline 10. This is the speed and incline I have always used!

You might be stressing it a little too much... I usually do the treadmill and a brisk pace 4 miles an hour (that's probably about 7.5 - 8 km/h... right?) and then an incline of 4... and my butt calves and hamstring get a good work out! I burn more calories than my mom running 5 mph at a 0 incline!

When doing 30DS, could you be rolling your ankles in while doing the side to side lunges?
  • Did you ever sprain or twist that ankle as a kid? I have some trouble with my right ankle that I sprained all the way back in 4th grade! It used to be really weak but has gotten better over the years but I find if I walk on it for about an hour it starts to twinge a bit

You have strained a ligiment or tendon most likely. Wrap it, rest it, hot compress it and ice it. And let it heal. Maybe back off what your doing a little because you could always make it worse. Hope ya feel better.
  • Some stretches/strengtening exercises you can do before AND after exercise:

stand on one foot and balance for 30 seconds, then try it with your eyes closed

walk on your tippy toes for 20 seconds

point/flex with a towel for resistance

I sprained my ankle over a month ago and I finally went to the foot doctor. These are the exercises he told me to do and so far they've been really helping. He also told me that "heat" helps loosen tight muscles, and "ice" (unless it's swelling) can cause the muscles to tighten.

I'd say if your ankle doesn't get better within a week, go see a doctor. I waited too long.

Im not sure, Im very conscious of both my knees and ankles when doing the 30DS, because Jillian is always banging on about them!! It only bothers me when I walk, even just around the house!! I have never broken/sprained anything, so its not like its a previous injury!!

I totally agre with the possible tendon stretched. I ignored my pain because it hurt when I was off my feet at night so I kept on exercising and now I dread it. I'm in a boot for 2 weeks, meanwhile my other foot is hurting the same because of the pressure added from bad foot. Please look up info for tendonitis symptoms and remedies. You might need othropedics (inserts), I'm waiting for mine as we speak. A little pricey but worth it if I'm going to get back to the gym. I've got 40 pounds to go and can't wait to get back to it. GOOD LUCK!!

I go thru this same thing. My foot wants to roll slightly so I have to buy sneakers with the rolling stability built in. I usually have good luck with Nikes that have this. Mine is starting to act up now and so that tells me it is time for new sneakers.

Amazing-I have had the same issue with both ankles from time to time and find they hurt the most at night when I am resting-sometimes the pains is so bad I can't sleep. Now the top of my right foot just below the toes hurts. Seems better when I am in shoes . I have new balance with stability which I love, but can't wear them to work in the office :(

Does it say stability somewhere on the shoe or box? I am due for another pair and I am having a hard time finding my Nikes in my area. Maybe I can find the New Balance shoes that you have. Thanks
