Ok... this was in my paper today:
http://jacksonville.com/opinion/blog/423471/gary-mills/2011-07-27/deals-smoothie-king-launches-new-lean1-smoothie-special

Apparently, Smoothie King has a new Lean1 smoothie that is said to deliver 20 to 30 grams of protein, boost energy levels that "help burn body fat up to 68 percent faster, tone and define lean muscle, speed recovery from workouts and achieve and maintain a healthy, fit body," according to a Smoothie King news release.

*How many of you actually believe that a smoothie can do all of that? I'm kind of a skeptic, but I want other opinions, too.*

For those of you that are curious, have a Smoothie King near you & would like to try the smoothie - That newspaper article links you to a coupon. The 20-oz smoothie, because of it's debut is only $1 if you try it today (July 27th), and $1.99 if you try it before August 14th.

I just received coupons in the mail for this as well, haven't tried it yet, but may consider using the coupon for one after a workout just to see how I feel.

Will have to try it, plenty of SK here in Louisiana. Check out the nutritional sheets on it when you go in a store to get one, check the ingreidents out thourghly as well.

hmm never heard of smoothie king but when i make my own and use frozen fruit, greek yogurt and protein powder i can get a whopping 20-28grams of protein packed in there!

It may sound like a smart/healthy decision, but the sugar content ends up being the killer! If you're looking for a smoothie to go to, try the 'Low- Carb' one's.. they've got twice the protein and nearly 1/5 of the sugar of the Lean 1. So much better!

It's cheaper to buy yourself a jug of good protein powder and mix it yourself -- for a whole lot less calories :)
Protein in general is going to curb your hunger....but so would drinking a giant glass of water.

This particular one says in one active serving..
    300 calories
    9g fat
    25g carbs
    15g sugar
30g protein (and they never say what kind of protien -- just proprietary blend.. of what? If its not whey i dont want it)

As a comparison, my current protein has these stats:
    120 calories
    1g fat
    6g carb
    4g sugar
    20g protein

Even if I doubled the scoops its less than the first... make sense?

BUT.. if you're on the run and going by smoothie king... it could be a lot worse!

See, this is my thought on it.
I really don't think a smoothie can have that much potential for power as SK seems to claim.
I'm rather skeptic about "smoothie power" unless I make it myself & I know what goes in it.

Smoothies are very high up on the list of foods that sound healthy but are NOT.

    These tricksters are quite unfortunate.

Greek yogurt is another trickster if you don't read labels...

    Greek Yogurt 1: 6g protein, 22g sugar
    Greek Yogurt 2: 22g protein, 3g sugar

Which do people buy most often? #1 of course!

Jeeze! I'm at the point where if i really want to have a smoothie I will go to the grocery store, buy a blender, some fruit, some yogurt & DIY it. You never know what's hiding.
Although, I do really love/respect Tropical Smoothie - They offer smoothies with Splenda as an option instead of sugar AND they list EVERYTHING nutrition-wise online. They're just really great people at that company.
  • I just tried the new lean 1 meal replacement smoothie from smoothie king and it was NOT good. It tasted good for about the first 1/4 (still wasn't as good as the slim n trim chocolate w/ spenda that I usually get) but after that it had this horrible taste that I cannot explain. It tasted like a foreign protein mix or something. It also did not sit well with my stomach at all. My stomach is still uneasy as I type this.

I'm not too sure or not if it would have sustained my hunger because I just could not finish it to find out. I hope I can save some people out there some money because I sure wasted mine at almost $8!
  • I have been drinking these smoothies all week. One thing that has happened is, it helps curb my appetite. That makes me happy if nothing else happens.
  • Oh an I also bought the lean 1 chocolate tub to make at home. The chocolate tastes the best in my opinion.

I've had it before! I say it is great! I lost 11 lbs in 4 months & my cravings have diminished a whole lot, also their acai berry detoxificant is amazing!
You can always make your smoothies skinny!(meaning no sugar in them) I think they still taste great!
