Has anyone heard about the Dukan Diet? I have a friend who said her cousin has lost a ton of weight on it. I am willing to try it, but do not want to go on another fad diet and gain all the weight back. Just wondering if anyone has tried it and what your results have been...?

I have 2 friends who are currently trying it and are raving about the results and how easy it is to follow. I'm a vegetarian, so I can't follow it myself, but they are saying that it's loads of food and they're losing like crazy. Hope that helps and good luck!0

I've never tried it myself, but like Sam said we have friends that have done it and rave about it. I've only heard 2 negative comments - one friend said the high protein diet made her breath smell; another friend said she lost weight (and quickly), but once she started introducing veg and carbs back into her life, she found herself binge eating. So with that in mind, I think if you are looking for a diet that works quickly (for motivation rather than anything else) this will work, but it's not sustainable in the long run.0

I started the Dukan diet in May after seeing Pierre Dukan on Dr. Oz. I've lost over 30 pounds so far. I've never gotten the side effects listed such as foggy brain, bad breath, or constipation. It's very easy to follow, I guess that's why I can do it. It doesn't require specially prepared recipes like some other diets. For breakfast I often have steak and eggs (lean cuts like eye of the round). For snacks I eat plain nonfat yogurt with flax meal sprinkled on (flax meal is not on the plan but I swapped it for oatbran) or non fat cottage cheese. Lunch I often do steak and cheese (lean beef with nonfat cheese) and salad. For dinner I eat chicken, beef, or pork (pairing those with veggies on most days not every other like I'm supposed to). I have sugar free jello for dessert. I love dairy products so I'm happy not to have to give them up for this diet. Maybe that's why there were no side effects, there's plenty of carbs in dairy. I'm never hungry and I never have cravings, I don't feel like I'm being deprived of anything. My weight loss has been slow but steady and I feel like I could eat this way forever. Since I began Dukan, I have been to the doctor and had my numbers checked. I have excellent blood pressure, good cholesterol numbers and good blood sugar. I feel more energetic than ever and I sleep better than I have in a long time. I'm sure the diet's not for everyone but it has been great for me.0

Hi! As a vegetarian, you can do the Dukan - he discusses vegetarian proteins in his book, which ones are okay. I'd tell you but I can't remember off the top of my head. And the diet allows nonfat dairy products. Just thought I'd share.0
