Hi everyone, Im Gary and Im new to this site!

Ive been on my weightloss journey since May 2009 and have lost over 200lbs with about another 50 more to go!

This past fall I started running and soon became part of my life! My personal goal is to finish the ING NYC Marathon.

I started my site www.500lbs2marathon.com to chronicle my journey and to hopefully motivate and inspire others to get healthier and more active!

Was hoping to meet some new people here who are also interested in running and losing weight.

Thanx!

  • Welcome Gary! Way to go on the weight loss! I love to run and am looking for inspiration to get back into it after completing a half marathon in April. What is your favorite thing about running? I think mine is feeling so pumped yet exhausted after a long run that you can't help but feel good about what you just accomplished!

Hello Gary! Congrats on your 200lb weight loss. That's so awesome. I have never been a runner, but I have started recently and was so proud when I made it a quarter mile without stopping or gasping for air! I'm a long way from a marathon, but will gladly cheer you along!!! Welcome to MFP.

I love the sense of accomplishment I feel when i finish a run. I also enjoy knowing that at a race, the only one Im truly competing against is myself, and trying to better each time out. I also love the running community, lost of great people!

I love to run as well...as you could probably gather by my user name. I think your weight loss accomplishment is AMAZING! Good for you for sticking with it! I started running a few years ago to battle the dreaded middle aged spread and have stuck with it. Not only does running improve your body, it helps restore your sanity. Nothing like a good run after a tough day at work.

Thanx so much!! Make sure you give your injuries time to heal, better to rest a couple weeks then to make them worse and be out even longer!

    Keep in touch!

Gary - Great job on losing the 200lbs! Fantastic Accomplishment! Good luck with your training for the 1/2 marathon this fall. I am also training for a 1/2 marathon and I love to run. Running is much more than just exercise for me, its a hobby/addiction. What I love about running is the constant challenge - improve distance, pace, stamina, etc - there is always another personal record to break and it keeps me motivated.
