100% Italian
So not only I am hypothyroid and have a food addiction, I am 100% Italian - which as some of you may know means, "Oh you have to eat, you look soooooo skinny..." or "I worked all day making this food, you better eat it...." or "you know it makes me happy when you eat what I make..."
Yes people the guilt is rampant in my extended family....so as not to offend or break anyone's heart...EAT up until you explode!
Does anyone else have this problem? I am 41 years old and still feel like a 5 year old around my aunts and uncles

Im not a 100% Italain but I do have a big italian family. I get that too! I just take smaller portions than I normally would. My response to people when they say , "Your skinny as it is, or You don't need to lose anymore weight" is "Well, you haven't seen me naked." & that normally shuts them up. haha0

I hear ya! I attempted to pass on my grandmas spaghetti at a sunday dinner and got the look of death. I thought she was going to kill me. Needless to say, now I partake, as to not hurt anyones feelings...but I stick to the correct portions and eat slowly. As long as my plate is never empty, I notice they dont seem to ask if i want more food. The cookies on the table is another story. My family puts out never ending food at the END of the meal which normally gets me in a lot of trouble. I notice I just cant even have one or I will eat too much. I limit myself to the main meal and thats it.0

OH Jennifer.. lol..
I'm Mexican Portuguese and My family was exactly the same.. although I don't have my grandparents anymore.. it was always come over and eat, eat, eat! My great grandmother, grandmother and great aunt were wonderful cooks but obese as well.
Funny how I'm the only one out of my immediate family who inherited those genes and eating habits.. ugh! lol
I'm 44 and until June 1st, 2011 did I get a hold of my life and make some changes.. It's never too late!
Friend me if you wish and we'll encourage each other along our "healthy ME journey"..:flowerforyou:
Sincerely,

Half of my family is Mexican and the other half is Jewish. The same "eat eat eat!" rules apply to both cultures. I always take a little bit of everything and really take my time eating. As long as they see you eating (never mind if you're just picking at the food), you shouldn't have to deal with too many comments. Good luck!0

I'm Mexican-American and life revolves around food. Every Sunday the whole family gathers for dinner and we stuff our faces. That's what we do. My family must be the black sheep of Mexican family gatherings because they have accepted and respected that I am on a diet and that I can no longer stuff mah face! Oddly enough my family is not obese.... only I am - go f%cking figure lol!0
