Hi. I have about 100 lbs to loose. Never tried this before so not entirely sure what I'm doing yet! I had lost about 40 lbs previously. But put it all back on when I had my second baby. I'm looking for friends to share this journey and help motivate me!

I also have about 100 lbs to shed. 104 to be exact. I am 1 year away from 40 and have always had a goal to lose the extra weight that I've carried since the birth of my first child. I have 4 now. Youngest is 13, so it has been a long journey. I am running out of time to accomplish my goal. LOL I am from Illinois. A small town south west of Chicago. It's actually called a Village. The Village of Walnut. I am attempting a low carb route this go round. Doing Tae-Bo workouts 3-4 days a week. Walking for 25-35 minutes a day, trying to build up my endurance and strength to start jogging again. I used to be able to run 5k's and go 6 miles at a time. Been a bit down the last few years and put on 90lbs that I had lost and then some. Now I can't even walk for the 25 minutes without my lower legs killing me. Taking it slow. I just started a 30 Day Squat Challenge, and Push-up Challenge to my list also. Started today. If you Pinterest, you can find those there. I could use a friend. Someone to ask how is it going, tell me to keep it up. Someone who can relate to how I feel about myself. And well just listen when I need to vent, instead of telling me if I want to change then I need to get off my butt. lol.... Add me and we can maybe help each other.6

I've never been able to log in more then 1 week without quitting. I then saw a video of myself at work, doing something silly and everyone was having a good time (myself included) and it made me want to cry. I saw how big I was in those videos and pictures I felt so embrassed. I'm tired of never being in pictures with my children because I'm too embarassed of the way I look. I'm still only starting like you. I've logged in for a month now and starting walking. You can do this! I Can do this! We can do this! For our children, our partners and more importantly for ourselves!10

Good morning! Welcome....what an awesome goal! I have about 30 - 40 lbs I'd like to lose and keep off. I've lost weight in the past and became complacent. So, my motto is to "keep starting over until I won't have to start over again!" ;-) I have no set time because for me this is lifestyle change and not a diet. I am type 2 diabetic coupled with hypertension. I want to lose the weight so that I won't have to take the medications anymore. This disease is totally reversible and if I lose the weight I could possibly rid myself of the hypertension medication; at least drastically reduce it.

I have 150 lbs to lose. Im 40 years old, mom of 3 teens. I am breaking my weightless goal down into smaller goals. So my first goal is to lose 50 lbs. I've lost 20 of that 50 so far since the middle of May. I am watching my carbs and now that I'm on MFP, I'm watching my calories too. I can't exercise much yet but I'm working on it. I think I need a little motivation. I lost 40 lbs last year and got up to walking 6 miles in a day. Then I got sick for 4 months and put 20 lbs back on. This is not fun but when I am healthy enough to get life insurance I will be pleased!5

Just started this 2 days ago so I'm new to it also! I really like it so far though and I love being able to track my calories so I can physically see how much I'm eating! It has helped me so much! I started my weight at 254 the first day and as of today I am down to 251 so this is really helping me not eat as much as I was and watching what I eat! I am excited for this journey! My goal weight is between 170 and 180! We can do this guys!3

Hi there! I have tried losing weight in the past, but I always became discouraged. I decided to take it seriously this time, and I have my husband's support to not give up. So, I am about 2 1/2 weeks in on trying this again.
I have about 110 pounds that I need to lose myself. I have given myself multiple goals to help make the process easier. My first is to be under 200 pounds again which I have not been since before college 8 years ago. My next goal is to drop to my early high school weight of 150 pounds. Pounds past that goal will depend on how I feel about my body and health.
MFP has helped me stay on track. I had already cut soda out of my diet three years ago, but my love for sweet food taunted me. I am watching my fat, sugar, and carb intake daily. In doing so, I have learned to cook so many healthy and tasty things now.
I don't go to a gym because that has always lead to me giving up. I was told multiple times that I didn't belong there (because of my weight) so I have a fear of going back. To make up for that, I found that dancing makes for a great, yet fun, exercise that I can do at home. I pair that up with walking and swimming for my aerobic and then resistance band exercises for my strength training.
Lets all encourage one another to not give up and stay motivated! I'm always open for chatting!3 -
Hello to all of you!!! I have been on mfp for a little over a year. I'm down 48 pounds. Was down 65 before Christmas but holiday food got the best of me and I gained some back. I have struggle to get back on track but I finally am there and more dedicated to my journey than ever.
For those just starting I would suggest to just log all your food for a week. This will give you a great look at how you eat. Then you can adjust your calories and log. Also don't stress a bunch about exercise just yet. You can lose lots without ever exercising. It is all about calories in vs calories out. Get yourself use to the change in your eating habits and then add some exercise.
Another must is a food scale. You can get one under $15. Dose t matter what brand just make sure it has a tare button. Also drink lots and lots of water!!!
Anyone is welcome to send me a friend request. I'm always looking for new friends. You will find out that people come and go very quickly. I log daily and have an open diary.

Hello I am a new mom again at 43 years old. I am just getting back to cleaning up my act. spent the last 2 weeks analyzing what I want. Now to really get things moving again. I am a type 1 diabetic. So my goals are to loose weight, tighten up my core and get my A1c level down. At last check it was roughly 8 during my pregnancy.2

Hello! I've been working on this a while now, about 5 years (slow and steady) and I've lost about 75 lbs, but I'd like to lose 60 more (135 lbs total... WOW). I was stalled for awhile so now I'm trying KETO (low carb, med protein, higher fat), so far it's shaking things up a bit. Good luck on your journey, anyone can feel free to add me.2

Hello! I have a 100 pounds to lose, too, and I can't tell you HOW MANY times I've tried something and stopped for one reason or another. I just re-started My Fitness Pal today and hope to stick with at least tracking my food. I'm getting married in 3 months and had such high hopes that I would be farther along than I am...which is no change from a year ago. I'd love to connect with some of you that are on the same journey!! It's different when you have SO much to lose than those that have 10 pounds to lose. Very different struggle and I'd love to have company for the travels.2

For the majority of my life I weighed 105 lbs. Then I received a letter from my husband that he wanted a divorce. My world plummeted into darkness. I attempted suicide. Unfortunately I did not have enough pills. If I was to live I had to move. My son turned 18 and I abandoned my children. I have a daughter too, in Florida and went to be with my mom in Michigan. My weight got out of control. I tried different weight loss programs and lost some. By the time I was ready to join the working world I had lost a bit of weight. I was stoked. Being on the road with my new job and eating junk food though I blew up. Slowly but surly I gained 108 lbs. A couple of years ago I started using the Beachbody program. When I follow it I lose weight. I really like the workout programs. Unfortunately I am very bad about following the nutrition plan. Now I am 4 weeks away from seeing my second husband's family and I am desperate to lose at least a little bit of weight. I know if I just do the workouts and follow the nutrition plan, I could lose about 10 lbs or more. Did I mention I am on 2 psych drugs that have side effects of weight gain? And we can't take me off the meds cuz bad things happen when we do. Different drugs have been tried but they don't work. I just have to follow the Beachbody nutrition plan.....1

I have got exactly 100lbs to lose - 243-143lbs. I've joined today although I'm using a membership record I set up years ago and never did anything with - I wish I had! Even getting rid of 50lbs would be life changing.
I am so lucky that at 51, I have no health problems but I feel I am living on borrow time.
I hope I can find the strength to get rid of at least some of the flab.

Just to encourage you to continue trying. Don't give up. If you stop it is not going to get better. This is a war, made up of daily battles...what to eat, should go for a walk? or should I watch some more NETFLIX? In my experience, food is addictive and help us forget our pain. I remember being a child and eating all the sweets I could possible chew because all the rejection I faced each day. I am an adult now and need to accept that food is killing me, little by little. I refuse to die from a self-inflicting wound. It is time to stop, take control, accept responsibility, and make a change. My approach works 1200-1600 calories daily, carefully keeping track of it, being honest about what I put in my mouth, and exercise. I should have a deficit each day. This system gives you back the calories you burn with the exercise and kind of give you the chance for you to eat them back. But, what is the point. I ignore that, and stay focus on not eating more than 1600 calories. And even that is too much. Be brave and conquer.1 -

I've never posted anything to any "social media site" but felt moved to share my story for the first time on this thread. You see I lost 120 lbs (270 to 150). And I tell you that not to brag but to tell you it is very, very possible and actually, in retrospect, it's not that hard. When people ask me how I did it, I answer "diet and exercise" (they always seem disappointed with that answer). Anyway, step one is to figure out how many calories a day you are eating. Log everything and be honest with yourself (lying to yourself is never good). Buy a scale and a good set of measure cups and spoons. Measure everything and log it all.
Step two is figure out a calorie count you can eat where you will lose weight. You see, you MUST eat less calories than you burn. That is the only way to lose weight. Period. The only reason you have extra weight is because you ate more than you burned. That's the bottom line. You can use the MFP tool to give you a calorie count that should work for you. My first number from MFP was 1800 calories per day.
Now, you have to learn WHAT to eat. I will tell there are two things you must eat - lean protein and high fiber. Fish, chicken, eggs, complex carbs, veggies. These things will keep you full. Eliminate ALL empty calories, you have no room for them. I was surprised how much I could eat with 1800 calories. It helps if you dedicate yourself to cooking/preparing everything you eat for the next year. This is inconvenient but it's the only way to really control what goes in your mouth.
Eating less calories than you burn will get you losing weight, but if you want to lose weight faster, start exercising. Start with walking. 30 minutes a day. Then work up to some kind of cardio (i.e. elliptical, jogging, biking, etc...). Now here is an important point. Start doing resistance exercises (i.e. lifting weights). If you don't do this, your body will start using muscle as fuel to make up the calorie deficit. And that is counter-productive to what you want to do - lose fat. Losing muscle will also lower your metabolism so you end up burning less calories per day (again, counter-productive). You want to do a combination of cardio and resistance training. Very important. And always remember this - you can NOT out exercise a bad diet. You must get the diet straight first. Exercise will accelerate the weight loss.
Lastly, on motivation, it's really not about motivation (you seem to have that), its about discipline. So, when you are offered empty calories, you have to get it in your head that "I just don't do that anymore". That's who you are now. Donuts don't temp me, I just don't do that anymore. Its the same as if someone offered me a cigarette, I just don't do that. If it isn't helping you meet your goal, don't crave it and feel like your denying yourself, just rule it out completely. I don't know if this will work for you but it is how I approached it.

I am not so new, but have RE-started my journey after MANY starts and stops this past February. I too have over 100 lb to lose (120 to be exact for my first initial goal.) I am already down a little over 30 lbs. I have made the commitment to myself that I DO NOT want to come back AGAIN. There have been MANY times I have wanted to give up, turn it "off", and not care. But I can't do that. I have a daughter that has gone through hell and back 3 times since her birth (she is now 10) and I want to be here for her later on in life. I have been told by several doctors if I want to be around, I want to get rid of/alleviate certain medical conditions I HAVE to lose weight. (not as easy as it sounds Doc) I do not deprive myself of ANYTHING, ever! I make conscious decisions now on where I want my calories to go. Is a 400 cal donut really worth it? I would rather have 2 small meals instead.
This time feels different. I have been able to push away and deny the things I used to binge on. I have enjoyed (most days) my workouts and exercise. Where as before I would binge, I would LOATH the fact of even the thought of the gym. What is different? I started small. I did not go ALL IN and rush into this on this time around. I started with walking and tracking EVERYTHING I ate. NO MATTER WHAT. I did not deprive myself. I began to pay attention to protions, what I was eating and when, how certain foods could make/break my day. This helped me to rein in my eating a little more.
As I got stronger with walking I added short toning videos (10-20 min) from youtube for beginners. I worked my way up. I am now starting HIIT workouts and have just completed half of the couch to 5K program. I am still no where NEAR my goal, but am a hell of a lot farther from where I was. One step, even baby steps, forward is better than going back or standing still.
I also have run into weeks where I have worked my behind off and I gain. I no longer beat myself up over it. I WILL NOT let the number define me. Take measurements!! When I do feel down over no loss or the number begins to bother me (it's easier said than done to not let it rule you on occasion) I re-measure. I have lost a total of 25 inches off on my body. 2 FEET!! Being able to see this progress as well was MORE than motivation it was invigorating! It has brought me out of a slump I was recently in. I highly suggest before photos as well. I know, I hate the camera too! But they are worth it!
You are worth it! You can do this! Just keep moving forward. If you have an off meal, MOVE ON! Do not allow it to ruin your whole day. Start over RIGHT THERE! and LOG IT. DO NOT beat yourself up EVER!0 -

Hi, I don't have 100lb to lose (10-20lb to go), but have lost 127lb so far over the last 20 months.
For me it helped to just log everything I ate to start with, not to consciously try and reduce my intake, just get a starting point. Turns out just recording what I ate helped me realise that not everything was worth the Calories and that first week I lost 4lb. I then picked what I thought was a sensible rate of loss of 1lb/week, plugged my details in and started eating the amount I was allotted.
Rather than what seemed like an insurmountable goal, I chose smaller, easier to reach goals. A short term goal of 10lb lost and slightly longer goal of 10% of original weight lost (which makes a huge health boost). At the beginning I was losing around 10lb/month thanks to ever increasing amounts of exercise, so I was hitting goals on a regular basis.
I also got myself a Fitbit, and as with my diet I just wore it for the first week to see what my activity level was like. Turns out that I barely took 3000 steps in a day, well I did struggle to walk across the room. Then I started using the Fitbit to increase my steps, adding 100 a day to my target until I was taking 20000+ steps a day, it helped motivate me to move.
After losing the first 25lb or so, I joined a gym and allowed my photo to be taken for the first time in years. An instructor at the gym worked out a programme for me that worked with my difficulties and I religiously went twice a week. Those first few months I could easily burn 700 Calories in an hour, as I struggled to use the treadmill, rowing machine, weight machines.
Then as I got down to around 225lb I ran/walked/crawled my first 5k and discovered I rather enjoy running. I still do run/walk intervals now but the longest run I've done so far is a half marathon with a full planned. Around a year ago I decided to get in to heavy lifting and working with my trainer learnt the 5 main compound lifts. I really wish I'd started this earlier as although my weight loss slowed, my body changed far more. Then I started attending high intensity classes and discovered I really do enjoy pushing myself to my limits.
I'm now down to 162lb, overweight still but no longer obese and the fittest I've been in my life. If anyone had told me what I'd be able to do now and what I look like 20 months ago I'd have laughed in their face. While it's not always been easy (there have been days when I've binged) losing 100lb is perfectly possible and a lot more manageable if broken in to smaller chunks.
BTW throughout this weightloss I've eaten at least 2000 Calories a day

I have 130 pounds to lose. I am 44 and my first goal is to lose 40 pounds by the time I am 45 in October. I have lost 8 so far, but I am starting to backslide with my food tracking, so I am looking for others in the same boat to support each other. I have tried to lose this weight over and over but I always end up heavier than before. Not this time! I have joined a gym program that is just for people who need to lose at least 50 pounds, and that is getting me 30 minutes of personal training 3 days a week. It comes down to controlling what I put in my mouth. Looking for friends to add.1
