You've taken a good first step just by being here. Have you set your goal in My Fitness Pal? A slow healthy weight loss of about a pound a week is certainly doable. Unfortunately, this requires a lot of dedication and patience on your part. But every single day, you can do this!! Be sure to explore all the forums on this site, especially the Success Stories (it's pretty inspirational, especially the ones with before and after pictures). Be kind with yourself. It's really neat that you're starting here.

    Love yourself first.

    Set a reasonable deficit.

Remember it will take time. Try to document all of the good changes you are noticing.

Congratulations to you and your success. Wow, how I can relate. I ride this roller coaster. How is it possible that you can see and feel the difference in your movements and body but the scale does not reflect the weight loss? Isn't weight loss ultimately our goal? In my case, I gain? This is the most absolute frustrating thing to go...

5lb is a great start! Don't be discouraged, remember that you aren't going to wake up 50lb lighter in one day or even one week. As long as you're making little changes and doing your best you should be proud of yourself  Do this because you love yourself, not because you hate yourself!

It was painful for me to look in the mirror around the time I realized I needed to lose weight. I cried. And I cried some more throughout weight loss. You've made the first step. You will have a lot of support here. You got this.

I found that setting some smaller goals worked better for me in terms of motivation. Like I am going to walk 15 minutes a day or I am going to give up soda. Making small manageable goals will keep you focused on the big picture which is to get healthier!

Don't look at the the overall goal, break it down to smaller goals that are achievable to set yourself up to succeed
