Am I losing weight too quickly??

Hello,
I joined MFP 26 days ago. Started at 5'5.5" and 140 pounds. I set my profile to lose .5 pounds per week. I am now 134.5-135.5. I exercise everyday but nothing too nuts and never more than an 1.5 hours. I eat every couple hours and am not ever in a hungry mode. I always have enough protein, fiber, iron, water, etc. but tend to have 300-500 left over calories each day. My parents are kind of concerned. I feel good though. I don't know what to do. I am going to try a "cheat meal" tonight. I have an open diary...any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks very much

Are you eating back your exercise calories?0

If 5 lbs in 4 weeks is TOO QUICK, sign me up!0

If you're worried, I would only suggest maybe trying to eat a more caloric breakfast. It's not that you're eating crappy or anything.0

I don't see anything wrong with what your eating, with the exception of the burger king stuff. Even though your plan is .5lbs a week it you may do more...It's not like you did it in a week, it took 26 days for you to lose 5lbs...I wouldn't worry about it too much.0

I don't think that 5 lbs in nearly 4 weeks is too much in general.
You say you have 300-500 calories left over, but are you eating less than 1200 calories? If yes, I would bump up your intake just a bit. The only other thing I might look at is your level of exercise...I know some here disagree, but I think daily exercise is really hard on the body. Maybe do it every other day, or alternate light and heavy days?
If your parents are really concerned, they could make an appointment with your family doctor or a nutritionist who could review what you are doing.0 -
you've lost 5 lbs in about 4 weeks. That's not too quick at all.0

If you're leaving 300-500 calories a day, that's why you're losing "quickly". You could easily set yourself to lose 1 lb and that would be perfectly healthy. I think it's good you're set to lose 1/2 though if you're not looking to lose too much. But if you're exercising, you should be at a net of at least 1200 calories per day.0

1 lbs fat is 3500 calories.
You should have lost approximately 2 lbs. since you joined MFP if you ate back all of your exercise calories.
You have 300-500 leftover each day.
This means you have created an additional deficit of 7800-13000 calories above what MFP has set for you. This accounts for an additional 2.2 -3.7 lbs on top of the 2 lbs you should have lost from the MFP-set deficit.
Based on what you have reported, you should have lost 4.2-5.7 lbs. Looks right to me
It's not necessarily too fast, just be sure that you don't rebound too far in the other direction!0 -
A pound a week sounds good to me. :-)

5 pounds in 4 weeks isn't too fast. I'd only be concerned if you were averaging over 2 pounds a week, which your not. You're just young and it's usually easier to lose weight when your youner. However, if you do want to lose the weight slower, try eating your exercise calories and see if that works for you.0

Looking at your diary, you appear to be right on target. I would say if you are feeling good keep at it. If you start to feel hungry or tired then slow down and eat a little more. You have to listen to your body.0

You can never be too rich, or lose weight too fast. As long as you don't steal the money, or starve yourself.0

If you feel great, go with it. Keep the momentum up until you start plateuing, and THEN re-evaluate.0

---What...rebound? That sounds scary. Am I more susceptible to rebounding because of this rate??
Also, thank you for calculating that I am ok...that was very kind of you!0 -

I like this. I may print it off and hang it somewhere as a healthy reminder...I'll give you credit of course!0 -

No! Sorry, I wasn't clear. What I meant was, keep it up, but be careful if you're super-hungry, too-tired, etc. Sometimes, when people start, they eat too little or work out too hard, to the point where the can't keep it up. The "rebound" is when it becomes too much and they binge eat and/or stop working out. Can often lead to a feeling of failure, causing them to stop trying altogether.
I hope that cleared things up, I didn't mean to scare you! I will choose my words more carefully next time0 -

I think you're doing great and were very smart for choosing 0.5 lb loss a week, I have about the same weight loss goals as you and I started off eating wayyy less cals than I should be, and yes I went into the dreaded starvation mode. I recently upped my cals and am hoping to see some loss in the next couple weeks. Your weight loss success has inspired me!0
