It's actually just a simple math equation. Your body burns a certain amount of calories every day. The more active a person is the more calories they burn.
To gain weight a person needs to take in (or eat) more calories than they burn.
To lose weight a person needs to take in (or eat) less calories than they burn. In other words, eat at a deficit.
Put your stats in into this app, and eat the amount of calories it suggests.
    A few tips:
Buy a kitchen scale to weigh your food.
Don't get into the mindset that if you eat even fewer calories than recommended, you can lose weight quicker. Slow and steady is the best way to do this.
Weight loss isn't always linear. Some weeks you lose, some you won't,and sometimes you might even be up a pound. If your consistent, it will work.

Plug in your information on the site. Look for a 1lbs loss a week. Whatever calories it tells you to eat, that's what you eat.
If you exercise and say burn 500 calories, eat an extra 250 to ensure your deficit isn't too high.
