So I'd like to hear from people who have tried something like this or know someone who has. I cut meat out of my diet about 2 weeks ago and after looking into it some more I also decided to cut any animal products out about a week ago. Which led me to reading the book starch solution (it's a good read if you are interested!) I know the old dieting ways are don't eat too many carbs you'll out weight on. So I just want to hear about other people's experiences... right now it's alot of brown rice and potatoes (I am not consuming very much bread or pasta that isn't made out of veggies anyways)
How did you feel?? Did you lose weight with it??

Yeah I kinda thought that... and really I feel full which is nice cause I've tried a plant based diet before but I stayed away from carbs and I was starving I would come home and binge on bread every once in awhile.
It's only a week in but I do feel better, everything else it's would be day 3 and I would cheat so this is nice. I think I need to invest in a scale though and really measure everything i put in my body. At least with packaged foods the calories are right there lol when making a batch it's a little more difficult to calculate everything out I find

I do 300+g of carbs 5 days a week (other 2 days are in the 230g range) - I've lost 11lbs since November doing this - protein is 140g a day and fat is 70-80g (lower carb day is a higher fat day)

Are you working out while doing this?? Or was the 11 just from the diet?? (If you don't mind me asking)

I eat carbs, heck I live on carbs. I started this MFP in Jan. 2017 and started with a 2000 cal. limit. Then stepped the calorie limit down some each month. I eat what I want but I stay within my calorie limit and I have lost 40 pounds. i am currently at 1560 calorie limit. Hope this helps.

November/dec when I lost the most - limited working out (recovering from an injury) - I lost about 8lbs then; the last 4 - more regular working out (but also bumped up my overall calories)

I eat all the foodz... lots of starches, daily bread, meats of all kinds, fish, etc... In the end, it all comes down to energy balance and compliance. I am satiated by starches/carbs and proteins, so my diet is focuses around it.

I'm just starting to get into the why and the science behind it all... everyone knows to eat so many calories but it's kinda cool to really get into the whys and different types of food

I do want to add, that I am a volume eater, so when I cut weight, I cut fat. Fat is way too expensive for me and it doesn't satiate me. So I aim to get 175g of pro, 20-30g of fiber, and 250-300g+ of carbs with 60-90g of fat.

I experimented for a time eating vegetarian about 4 days out of the week...on those days, my carbs were pretty high...no impact on my weight management. You put on weight (fat) when you over consume calories. That said, you may see a bump on the scale due to holding onto more water as 1g of carbs will hold onto 3g of water...

I lost 30 pounds in HCLF starch based last year. Then I screwed up and gained it all back. Trying to ease back in now.

Hi everybody!! I found this post through a quick search about the Starch Solution diet. I started eating a high carb starch based diet around the end of June (9 weeks ago) and have lost 30 pounds already!! I am LOVING this way of eating! I have not had this much energy in years and I had been dealing with eczema on my hands for years and it has mostly cleared up since starting this diet! And the weight is just coming off so easily (FYI I have 120 pounds to lose total so I'm starting off pretty heavy). I haven't really exercised too much since June so I'm pretty surprised each Friday when I weigh in and see I've lost a pound or more... Especially when I haven't felt like I was starving at all! I have been trying to lose weight for several years but I just had so much trouble finding something that worked and that I could stick to for the rest of my life. In January I began a low carb diet and it took me 5 months to lose 5 pounds!!! That was way too slow for me! And I felt so sick and miserable on it... It definitely wasn't something I could stick to for the rest of my life. But eating potatoes every day... Now you're talkin!! I don't ever want to go back to my old way of eating!!

I eat about 60% carbs simply because they satisfy me more than fats and protein. It's just the way I am. I have no problem with that. I'm not vegetarian though and still cook somewhat varied meals with fish or meat, pulses or tofu or paneer or similar things each day. The total amount of those is fairly small though.

I believe it's unhealthy to completely eliminate carbs from your diet so I do include them. They make up 30% of my calories. They relax me mentally and help me sleep.

Not following anything program wise other than portion control. I eat pasta, rice, bread etc Just smaller portions for keep my CI<CO to lose the weight. So while not high carb is a significant part of my daily diet is carb related (also lots and lots of fruit and veggies) Could not go kept/low carb ever as carbs are my fillers and keep me full the longest.
That said I have no problem with anybody eating any program as long as they are aware it is ultimately CICO that counts. Personally I believe that any mix of macro's (as long as you meet your micro's) works provided it keeps you full and happy and you can keep it up for a long long time.

I don't do the Starch Solution or anything like that, and I certainly wouldn't recommend it. I believe protein is far too important.

Saying that, I love me some starchy carbs and eat around 55% carbs daily. I just make sure to eat around 100 grams of protein a day. I am a vegetarian and usually get my protein from dairy and eggs and sometimes legumes and beans (usually eat those more in the winter).

Carbs are great. Especially for active people.

I think think a nice, balanced diet is best for most people, but in the end, a macro balance that keeps you satiated and is nutritionally sound will be easiest to comply with.

Yes! I started at 268 Jan 11, 2018, the day after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
The first 2 weeks were hard, but it's way less difficult once you're in a routine.
Today's weigh in saw me at 245 March 15. I lost 20 lbs in a hurry, and got cocky and experimented with new recipes and ate out...so I stayed the same. Now that time back to the basics, it's going down 1 lb per 2 or 3 days.
The basics: oatmeal with fruit and maple syrup, rice and beans and salsa to bring to work...and I either eat Dave's killer bread, or whole wheat from the work caf with it. I recently fell in love with ryvita wafers, so I also scoop the rice up with those. ,maybe two apples, and a container full of salad bar fixings like peas, corn, chick peas, and some pickles. I put mustard on my bread and have a salad bar sandwich. Yum.
Supper is 2 or 3 potatoes sliced and baked on parchment paper (my fave is red...they are so ...."buttery") with salt and ketchup. Then maybe shredded wheat and blueberries for a before bed snack, or more oatmeal.

I am stuffing my face, and I love it. The trick is to keep yourself from getting too hungry. Veggies with your starches really go a long way keeping you not hungry longer. I admit I need more veggies just for nutrient factor.

My blood pressure has gone down (still high, but not as high!) And I haven't taken diabetes pills since I was diagnosed.
My sugar was measured at 21 that day, and now I rarely see 10. (I don't measure after meals, but before, and in the morning.)
My gut troubles went away, and I rarely feel like sleeping at work. I don't pee as much at all, or have night sweats and i am hoping my snoring and mild apnea go away.

Www.drmcdougall.com has all the videos you'd want to educate yourselves if you're interested.

Ps...the website answers the "Where do you get your protein" question.
There's plenty in what I eat.
