Getting annoyed with myself/discouraged!

Hi there,
I was wondering if any of you have ever had this problem - I am either 100% on my game with my workouts OR on my game 100% with my eating! It is NEVER both! It is so self-defeating, I can't stand it! I don't know how/why, but it's the biggest obstacle for me.

I've worked out for years before having my two kids and putting on all the added weight, so I really feel I'm good at it. Once i get on a roll with my eating I find it fun and challenge to stay beneath my calorie goal.

Does ANYONE have ANY advice on how i can balance both.

I'm getting so discouraged....
Thanks in advance!

why don't you aim for being 90% on with both. relieves a bit of the pressure and makes allowances for little slip ups so they wont' ruin your 100% goal which is impossible to maintain anyway.

Workout on the days you eat poorly. Problem solved! I lost almost 60 that way!

Try focusing on the food goal. Eat a little meal a few times a day. With workouts, just keep it light and fun or just housework, etc. After you get the food game licked, then move into the exercise game. Reason: if you don't get the food right, it is really hard to work it off through exercise alone.

    THIS WAS ME!!!

I'll be honest - I did feel like this for years! I would either exercise and eat bad, or I would eat good and not exercise. I never felt like both were under my control. Two things I noticed - when it was my time to get them under control at the same time, I felt it. It seemed to call to me and I just knew it was time. The other thing is that I knew my track record, so I started by making a game out of it. I started a biggest loser -type competition at my work and almost all my co-workers in my office signed up! It encouraged me to take control and beat everyone at the compeition. I also did bi-weekly challenges like who could log in the most exercise minutes or who could eat the most salads. Everyone is having fun! This may or may not help you, but ultimately it is a choice. You have to weigh (no pun intended) what your priorities in life are and see where weight loss ranks. I was going to school full time, working full time, and raising a 2-yr-old while my husband lived in another state going to school. I still made it a priority - ranked after all the others, but a prioritiy nonetheless. Start with small workouts you know you can fit into your routine - such as Jillian Michael's 30-day shred - it is a 25+ min workout and it really works you out. But this way, you'll get a workout in every day you can find an extra 25 min. Good luck and add me as a friend if you need support!

Well put, fitwatch; I've found that if I keep within my calorie range I have a better chance of losing weight even if I don't necessarily exercise every day. If exercise allows me to add calories to my day, fine - if not, I don't eat as much.
  • I like to do my workout in the morning, so then all day, I think "hmmm...I just worked my butt off this morning, do I REALLY need to have that cookie?" Works everytime for me :) I have always dieted or exercised, never both at the same time, so DUH, it finally clicked! You can do it and don't be too hard on yourself if you aren't 100% on both. We can't be perfect in EVERY way now can we ;) lol!
