Has anybody lost weight having only one weight loss shake per day instead of two??

I have never has success with those but I have been doing the Whole30 (actually today is day 30) The Whole 30 requires you to eat breakfast but there are just days I cannot and I found that the Lean Meal Replacement shakes from VitaMedica are very satisfying and provide a better nutritional replacement than most. They only have 1 gram of sugar. I mix it with coconut milk and 1 cup of baby kale.

I drink meal replacement powder basically 3x a day monday through friday with great success in terms of health and satiation. They aren't "weight loss shakes" though. I'd be weary of any shake marketed as a weight loss shake. Something like soylent or ample plus a scoop of whey protein will give you a nutritionally complete meal.

Backstory: I left my job working at a hospital (worked security) over a year and a half ago to become a full time student. Since I left my job, I gained over 30 pounds from sitting at a computer doing school work for 9 hours a day. I'm a beekeeper and still do a lot of stuff outside, go to the Y, do quite a bit of cardio (I consider myself fairly active) but haven't managed to drop any weight.

I've always had a problem with my weight. I'm 5ft 9 tall and I've always been overweight. I can still hear family members saying "She's not fat, she's big boned" when I was growing up. In my adult years, I don't think I've ever been under 200lbs. I think my ideal weight for my height is between 140 and 160lbs

Nothing that I did seemed to help me loose weight. I felt for sure that since the summer months (it's summer here in North Carolina) were here that I would be able to drop weight pretty easily, especially since I would be doing a lot of outdoor work in the blazing heat, thus forcing myself to drink more water than normal. =

I also suffer from a form of depression called dysthymia which doesn't help matters either. I like food, I like meat.

I started going to a weight loss clinic as a new years resolution where you have to weigh in every two weeks, they help you/guide you on what to do etc. I have teetered around 240lbs for the past several months, losing a pound or two here and there and gaining them back. At $75 a visit and not getting any results, I was just at the point where I was going to quit and say forget it. I watch what I eat, I'm active but yet no change. I tried the Keto method and subscribed to some websites for info but I'm not much of a cook. The feeling of defeat sucks, let me tell you.

I tried protein shakes and found that they were absolutely disgusting. The last one I tried was Premier strawberry something (flavor) and after 1 sip, I had to throw the rest of it away. My boyfriend tried it (and he's used to protein shakes etc) and he was grossed out by it too. Needless to say, the rest of the 6 pack of drinks got tossed.

I did a lot of research online and found Soylent. I read extensively on their discourse forum, posts on Reddit and other sources. I wasn't really quite sure what to say or think. I really just wanted to try one before committing to a whole 12 pack but no one around where I live sells it nor does anyone I know use Soylent. I took a leap and committed to a 12 pack of the 2.0 bottles in original flavor and was so afraid that I wouldn't like it.

The first bottle, I took a sniff and smelled (to me) vitamins. I took a sip and was pleasantly surprised. I started drinking a bottle a day this past Monday, July 17. After day 1, I started mixing a powder in with the drink that I got from the weight loss clinic (its made by a company called healthwise, see nutrition info below) and it's helped out a lot with the taste. The taste before the powder reminded me of oatmeal and graham crackers. Flavoring is easy. So far, with one bottle a day and watching what else I eat, I've managed to see a change in my weight. I may eventually go to a 90% Soylent diet to get to my target weight to help with my eating habits and to re-adjust how I eat so that I can eat more healthy etc. I'm setting goals for 10lbs at a time. Once I reach 10lbs, I reset the goal for losing another 10lbs.

I'm excited that I'm starting to see change!

Can i just say... something in soylent (shakes & bars) causes severe gastrointestinal distress in my boyfriend. He bought it with some coworkers (despite my advice not to) and they were all out for like 3-4 days. I wont go into detail, i'll just say... it was bad.

I'm assuming you're eating actual food for the rest of your calories and not ONLY drinking ONE shake a day??? If you're meeting your calorie goals and the rest of your nutrients you can drink one shake a day or 10. It's all about the calories.

I don't think I could eat/drink something named Soylent. All I can think about is the movie, Soylent Green.

Soylent = 400 cals with added/powdered vitamins. Why not just eat chicken and some baked fries with a multivitam?

Your boyfriend may have had some sort of reaction to an ingredient in the drink or bars that affected him the way it did. Kinda like someone with a gluten allergy eating something that is supposed to be gluten free and inadvertently had gluten in it. It's not going to be for everyone.

I haven't had any reactions from it so I'm quite pleased with it.

I am eating actual food. I usually only eat twice a day, breakfast and dinner. The drink is what I consume for breakfast so in reality I've cut back on my calories and have been able to easily monitor it rather than having to weigh, calculate and guess. I'm a picky eater and texture based (if that makes sense), salads make me gag. So it's been hard to eat right.

That's cool then. I like a nice green smoothie with protein shake added in the morning sometimes. I still use my food scale when preparing it though. One shake for breakfast sounds perfectly reasonable - nothing too drastic or crazy. :)

"Weight loss" shakes are just gimmicks. All you're doing is forcing yourself to CONSUME less calories by adhering to their program.
Weight loss happens as long as you consume less than you burn, regardless of the approach.

Also, what does it actually teach you about eating? How to portion your food or count calories? That's where the attention to detail should be.
