you are supposed to hit your goal. coming in under once in awhile is ok but not long term, especially if its less than 1200 calories.

Not necessarily. You still need to fuel your body. If you consistently eat below 1000 calories (the threshold where you get that warning) you risk excess muscle loss, hair loss, brittle nails, hormonal imbalances that can especially mess with your menstrual cycle, and other things that come from malnutrition.

Eat at least 1200 calories, if not the goal MFP gave you.

If you eat under 1000 calories, MFP won't record it on your newsfeed.

Think of FOOD as FUEL for your body.

If you don't have enough fuel it won't run. MFP wants you to eat more so you can function. Otherwise, you'll be a broken car. ;) Fuel up!

Consistently under eating is not a good thing. Do you want to be healthy or just skinny? They are not necessarily the same thing. Under eating once in a while is fine as life happens. Or doing 5:2 or other similar intermittent fasting is also acceptable as you make up for it on the other days. But chronic under eating can have serious effects on your health.

They don't show you the figure because, in some people, seeing a very attractive "5 week" figure (because we all want to have lost weight yesterday) might encourage an eating disorder or unhealthy weight loss.

Your body still needs enough calories for it to complete it's most basic functions which involve keeping you alive. Going too far below your TDEE is not harmful if it's only once in awhile, but if it's on a perpetual basis you run the risk of malnutrition. MFP's lower limits are devised so that you keep your basic nutritional needs met. The only real caveat is that if you are severely obese your body can tolerate heavy deficits more than someone who is not.

Please keep in mind that it's not a race we are competing in. Yes, you will lose more weight at a lower deficit, but aside from nutritional concerns you are also FAR more likely to crash and burn in the long run since it is not a sustainable way to live. Ideally you are making a positive and permanent lifestyle change, not torturing yourself with a "diet". Having willpower is a great thing, and I commend you on this, but try to look at the bigger picture.

You willing to miss your goal weight by 20% and say that's close enough?

You attempt to reach a goal - perhaps for reasons not even understood.
