I lost 50 pounds with MFP and I am maintaining my weight 2 1/2 years in by not trying, but doing, and finding a comfortable new normal. In my opinion and experience, for someone who has been overweight for a long time, permanent weight loss isn't possible without a radical change in behavior, attitude and environment. And to stick to those changes, they can't be forced, they need to happen naturally, in the form of tweaking some things and dramatic leaps in other areas. This takes time and commitment and awareness.1
