If you're really overweight, are you extra hot, especially in summer?

This is worse this year for me than ever. I feel like the slightest increase in temperature and I just can't tolerate it. I'm wondering if anyone else is like this?

if there's anyone who has lost weight and noticed this got better with less pounds on?

Yes it's gotten a little better. But I think I run hot anyways. Not to my goal yet.0

This observation is really true. Obese people typically feel really hot relative to healthy weight people all other factors being equal...
After losing 35 pounds I am freezing in the winter and in aggressive AC.1 -
I noticed after I gained the last 15 pounds that I was always sweating and smelly because of it. It felt disgusting. Now I've lost that 15 lbs (still have a ways to go) and I did notice less sweating and feeling overheated.0

I know I've been cold in the winter, worse than before. But this is my first summer after dropping ~ 100 lbs so I'm just figuring this out. I know I'm still hot when it's 35C outside, but it does seem better than last year.0

One thing I really notice is the difference in lake swimming...
We live in Northern Ontario and Lake Superior is quite a chilly swim, even in the summer. My fiance and I used to be able to spend hours and hours in the water without getting chilled, but now it only takes 45 minutes to start shivering and want to get out! I think we need wet suits!0 -
I definitely feel the cold more now that I am down almost 40lb, and I don't feel like my face is going to melt off when I am walking for extended periods in Spring/Summer.0

This is me. I'm a furnace. Then add in hot flashes and I'm a mess.3

I used to feel terrible in hot weather. It wasn't just being hot and uncomfortable, I would feel dizzy and sick. This is the first summer that I have been able to really enjoy in my adult life, and I finally see what all the hoopla is about re: summer.3

I would say until this year (65lbs loss) I was NEVER cold.
Went outside in the winter without a coat, slept with full power AC and no blankets. I seriously cannot do that now - I actually "run" a little on the cold side now vs being too hot.2 -

I'm freezing all the time and not really over weight. have to wear sweatshirt in my office cuz everyone has the damn air on all day0

I've never been good with heat but this year I have totally lost the ability to deal with it. The doctor is testing for systemic inflammation which he thinks is probably the cause so I've been reading up on it. Recent research is finding that the fat we carry around itself is acting as an inflammatory "organ." If you want to read more about it, you can search "adipocyte inflammation."1

I sweat a LOT. I thought it would get better when I lost weight and got more fit. 42 pounds later - It has not. I read somewhere that some people have more sweat glands than others. I think I am one of those people.0 -
I can not stand the heat. Never been one for the southern climates. However there is a difference noticeable. When I was overweight I really really had to hide in the house. Hate the sun and summer. Now (smack bang middle BMI) I still do not like the heat. I still prefer a moderate cooler climate, but I can handle the hot summer a lot better. Specifically when asleep1

I've gone from BMI 27.6 to BMI 24.2-24.6 so far and it was worth it just for my increased toleration of heat. During a really hot spell last month, I was among the hardy souls able to go to an exercise class in 84 degrees F, when hardly any other regular turned up!2

This is the first Summer in my life when I've been in the "healthy BMI" during Summer. I absolutely do perceive a greater comfort level with the heat. July 4 I was out riding my bicycle for 2 hours in 95 F weather at high noon. It was noticeably warm, but not distressingly uncomfortable.3

This was so true for me! I used to sweat profusely (so attractive!) in one armpit & had to use clinical strength antiperspirant. That totally went away and I didn't think about it til now. I frequently felt dizzy/GI issues when it was hot, hot unless it was 70 degrees or cooler.
Now, I carry a sweater to stores/movies/work and ok @ 80 (can hike/walk for a couple hours and be warm, but not sick!).1 -
I was cooler when I was thinner, but I was also younger. Trust me, menopause is no fun.1

I've always been a hot-blooded person; wearing summer clothes in the depths of winter, complaining and overheating all summer.
After losing 10 stone and becoming fitter, I've found I'm tolerating the heat a lot better. But if I've lost my cold-invincibility superpower I will be sad!0 -
Ugh, yes. Can we talk about heat rash around boobs?! Jeez. This is one of the things I'm most looking forward to about shedding the extra pounds.0

Yes, oh golly yes! I am down about 45 pounds since last summer (90 total over two+ years, yay!) and although Washington-area 90 degree temperature/90% humidity still feels awful, I no longer want to die when I am walking around...and I can walk around now!0

I definitely tolerate the heat better now than I did 100 lbs ago. I don't feel so overheated and the migraines don't happen as often or as severely.0

I must be weird then, I was the opposite! When I was obese I felt cold all the time probably because my thyroid gave out and I became hypothyroid (which is one of the reasons I became obese) and now that I'm a normal BMI and athletic I'm much warmer probably because I have a higher muscle percentage and move around a lot more. When I go running I get super hot so I wear the least amount of clothing I can get away with, even in the winter.0
