Smelling food makes you gain weight?

Well just anecdotally, my Mom's as heavy as me and she lost her sense of smell in her very early teens. Of course it's also the same time she had a goiter removed and not long after was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

    I've been without a sense of smell since birth and I've always been overweight.. :|

    My dad had no sense of smell so didn't enjoy food, he was rail thin.
    My sister has an incredible sense of smell so doesn't enjoy food, she is rail thin.
    The taste of food is also connected to the smell of food.

    The three of us with an average sense are within the normal BMI range.

    Well that could make sense - lots of little tastes could add up - I'll just have a taste of cake, a taste of chocolate, a taste of pie........ ;)
