I have recently started regular treadmill work and have found my calf muscles incredibly tight the following day. This morning my left one was so tight that I was surprised I hadn't woken up in the middle of the night screaming from a charlie horse! I've never been very good at remembering stretching exercises so, if anyone has some easy/good ones to suggest, I'd be ever so grateful

Stupid computer voice, but you'll get the idea.

Stretching AFTER your exercise can be more important than before. Or better yet, warm up on the treadmill for a few minutes, stretch, do your workout as planned, then stretch when you are finished.

A really good one for your hamstrings and calves is to lay on the floor, scoot your butt up against the wall and extend your legs up the wall. With legs straight, flex your feet and pull your toes down toward you. If you can't completely straighten your legs, just go as far as you can and slowly work toward straightening them. If this isn't enough of a stretch, you can use a resistance band, put it around the bottom of your feet and then use it to pull your feet toward your head. I've found this is also very good for your lower back.

Static stretches are meant to be done after you are thoroughly warmed up or after work out. I agree with MisterDubs, stretching after your work out could help a ton with this! :)
