My doctor told me to cut back carbs as low as possible and make sure drink bunches of water. Gluten plagued me, so I went gluten free as much as possible . GF made a big impact on losing weight and feeling better.

If your underactive thyroid is effectively treated with medication, you may be able to lose weight just like anyone else does, by making sure you eat fewer calories than you burn, without any extra restrictions. (General good nutrition is always sensible, of course.)

I'm severely hypothyroid, well controlled with medication, and lost 60+ pounds that way, a third of my body weight.

Other people have different experiences; that was mine. Maybe try out the simple approach first? ;)
