"Oh, you're doing the healthy thing."

This is basically a rant about how the rest of the world views healthy living, and how keeping yourself motivated is the only way too succeed in leading a healthy lifestyle. My apologies in advance for the negativity at first.

I normally bring my meal-prepped lunch and snacks each day to work and have been doing so for about 2 months now very consistently. The past 3 weeks I have been counting every calorie I consume because I want to lose ~5 more lbs before I start maintaining and focusing primarily on lifting more weight. I eat breakfast when I wake up and pack a mid-morning snack, a lunch, and a late-afternoon snack for my work day, then I go home to eat dinner, workout, and have a protein shake. Eating so often really works for me.
So today I'm heating up my lunch and there are two middle-aged coworkers of mine in the break room with me that decide that they should comment on my lifestyle choices(this happens often as I'm very outspoken about my goals when asked). The woman says, "oh, you're doing the healthy thing"(Like being healthy is a fad or something). Then goes on to say something about how I'm teeny tiny I am, and how I'm one of the tiniest people in this building(oh, thanks I guess). Then the man says, "that's because she's young." (Seriously? It has nothing to do with the fact that I bust my butt at the gym and eat healthy? Ugh.)

At first I was a little bit flattered, then annoyed, then really annoyed, and I was over it after about 10 mins. Ha. The point of my whole story is that motivation comes from the inside, and you have to be completely committed to this lifestyle for it to work. Just because people may downplay how much effort you put into your plan or assume your healthy lifestyle won't last long doesn't mean that you aren't awesome or won't achieve your goal. You choose your path. I have been bigger and succeeded at losing the weight only because I pushed myself to stick with it and refused to let anyone throw me off track. Even when people bring in donuts, candy, and danishes I refuse to eat them because it is in my best interest to stay strong and not give in. People will say, "Oh, you can have just one." If it fits into your calorie budget, then have one. If it doesn't-say no! You will feel 10 times better when you hit your goal I promise!

Being healthy and self-confident is worth every ounce of effort and discipline it takes to get there! Keep it up. :)

I do the same things as you when it comes to food prep/eating often and receive similar comments from my coworkers. I am not the tiniest or youngest woman in our office BY FAR. I just let it roll off my back, because I know how hard I work in and out of the gym to stay healthy. They don't know my routine, and I am not going to bore them with it unless they ask out of genuine inquisitiveness and/or desire to make healthy changes.
