Dieting and Ramadhan

This is starting next week and I would like to know what are the best type of foods I should eat for my early morning breakfast? This has to be consumed by a certain time (I think it's about 5 ish) and no food or water completely until about 9 at night. So I'd need something filling and nutritious that won't make me too hungry lol.

When we do start eating at night, It's all systems go and you can pretty much scoff what you like which will rather defeat the purpose of dieting. I aim to have some dates, some fruit juice, plenty of water, home made fruit cocktail. I won't have a main meal otherwise I won;t feel like having a breakfast which is the important part of the fasting day.

Just thought I'd ask on behalf of myself and any other Muslim friends here.

Thanks again folks x

As far as filling - I'd say a high protein/fat meal would keep you the most full (and may be less calories than you'd think). I'd probably avoid the fruits/juices.

well considering you cant take any food after sun-up..and have to wait after sundown..once prayers are done..I would say forget the intake..and eat what you want.

Thats because you will not be consuming any food for 12 hrs or so..and what you do take..your body will need to use during the non-eating period.

I do think if you search the boards..someone did ask this a few weeks back.

Not sure what types of foods you normally eat but foods high in protein and fiber should do the trick. Stay away from sugars.

Do a search on the boards for "Ramadan" and you will get loads of answers...

This may sound counter-intuitive, but... there's no reason you have to eat breakfast food for breakfast, right? If it were me, I'd probably make a full (but healthy & balanced) meal from the leftovers of what everyone else feasted on the night before... dinner for breakfast, then the fruit and stuff later on... but maybe I'm just weird! :)

But at this time, eating what you want and just watching the portions seems like it would be OK. I hope you find a solution that works for you!

Eat your night time meal left overs for breakfast! I like rice and lentil soup in the morning.

    Thanks Sonia.

The early morning meal doesn't have to be strictly a 'breakfast' in the traditional sense. It can be anything filling and nutritious. It can be a evening meal we had the night before, some yoghurt etc.

But yes, I will do a search on the boards and see what other people have suggested.

    Thanks for your replies.
