Anyone out there doing OT? I (re) start classes on Saturday. Don't know how to log the calories burned. Orange Theory uses heart monitors that tell you how many cals you burned. Also, what are thoughts on using your extra calories gained from exercise (as far as eating them)?

I'll be curious to hear what you think of your workout!
    I haven't joined... but I'm tempted.
(I just need to use up my ClassPass card first!)

I love it! I am from S. Florida and have been doing it for 4+ years...I am faster, leaner and more defined than I was before I started.

They give you an HRM strap that gives you a calorie read out. It's pretty accurate as it goes by your heart rate. I wear a Garmin and put it on the "other aerobic" setting except if we start with a long treadmill block, then I use the "running indoor" setting for that and switch to "other" for the rest. It has me burning 450-550 calories a class (endurance is a bigger burn) which is around what it said when I used their equipment. I am fairly small and that's a good burn for me, at least 100 more than what I get in spin.

To log your calories - create your own exercise called "OrangeTheory" then put in the number of calories you get from class (they email them to you after class so you'll have a record of it).

I love OTF - it is a great workout. I'm temporarily on a medical break but I can't wait until I can go back in! Killer workout and if you have good coaches they will really push you beyond what you thought you couldn't do but in reality actually can! It is the hardest class I've ever taken!

The workouts are fine, they're pretty typical/fashionable "HIIT" cardio with a dash of Crossfit vibe.

Just be careful with the calorie burn numbers - HRMs normally give highly inflated numbers for this style of activity.

I did it for 5 months straight last year. It is the best thing ever! I have NEVER stuck to a fitness regime for that long in my life. I started a new job, moved, and then just fell out of the groove. I ended up canceling the membership, but I am going back tomorrow to rejoin. I am so desperate to get this weight off that I gained. I was put on a new medication which had me gain 25+ lbs. Its also the fact that I definately eat too much too, so I am re starting from square 1 at OT. It'll be hard, but honestly it is the most fun I've ever had at a gym!!

I am addicted!!! Love the efficiency, how it changes daily, and the trainers. You train like an athlete! I go 4-6 times per week on average.

Be very, very sceptical of the calorie burns claimed as using a HRM isn't appropriate for getting a reliable calorie estimate for that kind of training.

Yes you are supposed to eat back your exercise calories as your goal on here doesn't take exercise into account but be you need to make sure the estimates are reasonable.

I just add my own workout and title it orange theory. You can edit the minutes doing it and how many calories it said you burned in that class. I love orange theory. If I go work out on my own I have no idea what to do and I don’t work out as long and definitely not as hard.

I've been going to OTF for about 2 weeks now. I really enjoy it. I use a fitbit, as well as the OTF HRM. I'm going 4 times a week right now, but will likely increase that to 5 or 6 times a week once I get a little more stamina. I've lost 5 lbs in the last week, so I feel like I am getting the results I want. And it's great to feel stiff from a workout, don't you think?
