Don't keep the food you find hardest to portion out to fit your calories in the house.
Have larger portions of vegetables and fruit.

It depends on how many you are cooking for, but one technique is to pre-portion high-calorie foods before cooking. For example, if you want to eat a half a sweet potato, cook just that. Another approach is to put away leftovers before eating. Get out the tupperware and put away extra portions after cooking but before you eat (some people do that at restaurants). In all cases, don't buy big Costco bags of things you don't want to overeat, like chips. Buy single serving packets or portion out larger amounts into baggies when it comes in the house. Also, if you go to a job, bring all your food for the day, including snacks. Then you can ignore the donuts and cookies people bring in and eat your apple or granola bar instead.

That baggy idea for chips is a good one

Sometimes you never think of the obvious
