Any vegans or vegetarians?

I'm a transitioning vegan. I was formerly pescatarian since I ate fish and occasionally chicken but no beef or pork. I just watched the documentary Whst the Health. I have Crohn's disease. It suggested in the documentary that a plant based diet could put me in remission. I decided to try a vegan diet to try and improve my health and for the love of all animals. I'm a 26 year old female. I also have about 35-40 lbs to lose. Feel free to add me on here for support.

That documentary cannot be trusted. Ex: They stated that animals cause osteoporosis. McGreggor is an animal rights activist with his own agenda to make the world eat plants and save all animals. He even is on the payroll (works for) the Humane Society of America.
Enjoy documentaries from the internet, but take them with a grain of salt. In another video in youtube he stated that meat causes diabetes. Seriously.

I'm 28 years old vegan (been one for 3 years) looking to lose about 60lbs, will add you and cheer for you! Going plant based solved many of my health problems, especially digestion related ones, but not all, of course. I don't think it's a magical diet that cures all illnesses but I think excluding things like red meat, cheese, creams etc. (ofc you don't have to be vegan to do it) helps a lot. And I am happy to not eat anyone who had to be killed for me to eat them, but that's another topic.6

Vegetarian for 25 years. I love my way of eating; it works well for me and fits my personal beliefs. I believe it does not make me any healthier or less healthy than if I ate similar macros but incorporated meat.
It would be fantastic if a vegan diet were actually shown to improve Crohn's disease. If it helps your symptoms, go with it. If they did find a cure, though, it would be huge news. It wouldn't just be presented in a movie.3 -

I just started being a vegetarian at 31. I honestly never really enjoyed meat that much- and how they treat animals has pushed me to stop eating it. Eventually I would like to become a vegan which I think is so much harder!0

Been vegetarian for 22 years. Initially decided to go that route because I thought it was healthier overall and because I'm extremely picky and didn't like most meats anyway. These days, just the sight of uncooked meat makes me queasy. I've never heard about any positive effects on Crohn's from being vegan or vegetarian. You may want to look a bit more deeply into the topic or talk to your doctor about it to see if that might actually help. Good luck with it though. Keep us updated.3

Ovo-lacto vegetarian since age 19. I'm 45 now. I don't cook much dairy, but I eat yogurt and string cheese. Most of my cooking is vegan. (Long story short, I'm married to a meat-eater. We're both kosher. And since strictly kosher involves different dishes and utensils for meat and dairy, eating together at the table means trying to make sure that if the cooked veggies are in a meat bowl, nobody sticks a dairy spoon in, etc. Most vegetarian cookbooks seem to be over 50% dairy and I seem to get more bang for my buck with vegan cookbooks, so I have a lot of them. Not opposed to cooking with eggs. I just won't come across recipes that contain them in my usual cookbooks.)0

I've been a vegetarian for about 9 years. I dabble in veganism because i'm allergic to dairy but I still eat cheese sometimes anyway lol. I don't miss meat at all, I love vegetables more than anything. Even when I ate meat I ate processed meat like chicken fingers, sausage, scrapple, or corn dogs ... all slathered in ketchup or honey mustard. I was addicted to sugar back then. Cutting out the meat was easy and now I would never consider going back, I don't even like the taste of meat.0

Second degree vegetarian. Cows eat grass; I eat cows.
I have no problems with those who choose to avoid meats as long as they don't preach to me.

Recent vegan. Though I have actually gained weight since going vegan, I'm still happy with my decision. I eat like a saint and the scale doesn't budge the way it used to on a low carb diet. Ya you can do vegan low carb but what a terrible existence. My psoriasis has cleared up and so has my acne since doing this so I'm happy about that.1

I went vegan in January because the lifestyle alligns with my personal beliefs. I can't speak to the effects veganism may or may not have on chronic illness, but I can say that it hasn't had any impact on my weight. Remember that weight loss is still just eating less calories than you burn. I also supplement B12 and iron - check in with your doctor to ensure you don't become deficient in any nutrients. I'm currently transitioning to a whole foods, plant based diet for the potential long term health benefits. I still include small amounts of animal products though, especially wild caught salmon, (most of the Blue Zones eat fish).1

I have been a vegetarian for most of my life as I never really liked any kind of meat (my mother gave up trying to get me to eat meat at 13). I used to hide the meat and pretend I ate it until I got caught!
Anyway. I do end up eating vegan on some days without even trying (when I'm not logging) but have a hard time doing the transition full time as it would mean giving up cheese and chocolate (I dislike the vegan versions of both).0 -

It's been a full week since I had any animal protein and that is 1 week longer then I have ever gone. I'm hoping the health benefits are true. Just something to try and hope that my 5 days a week of strength/cardio workouts don't suffer.2

I've been a vegetarian (lacto/ovo) for over 9 years. I was never diagnosed with anything. However, when I was still eating meat it would really mess up my stomach and once I stopped eating meat my issues resolved on their own. It's worth a try! My body does way better without meat, everyone is different.0

I've been eating a whole foods plant based diet for 5 years. I've lost over 100 pounds. I'm a 58 yo male, and my father was a butcher, so I grew up eating more meat than anyone. My dad also had his first heart surgery at age 55, and 3 since then. I don't want to end up like him, because he is barely living. The science is clear, animal products contribute to chronic disease such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes. I rolled the clock back 15 years when I went plant based, and I have the blood tests to prove it.8

I don't have Crohn's, but I have resolved a health issue with veganism. I had my gall bladder removed almost 17 years ago. For the first 11 solid years, I had to take powdered medicine mixed in water to "bind" me because my gall bladder stem wouldn't make bile. I suffered from horrible ongoing stomach cramps and if I didn't take my medicine each morning by 10 am, I would have to run to the bathroom once every couple hours. I suffered from constant diarrhea. I really noticed this when I would eat eggs or greasy breakfast meats. By the 10th year of taking the medicine, it was losing its effectiveness and I had to add on a second medication. This time, it was a pill I had to take 20 minutes before eating ANYTHING. It was horrible. And it gave me cotton-mouth.
I "went vegan" on February 22, 2012. By March 1st, I wasn't having any stomach cramps or diarrhea. I stopped taking the pills before eating. I felt wonderful! By the end of March, I stopped the powdered medicine and told my doctor. I don't know who was more ecstatic - him or me! Changing my diet has been a Godsend and I feel WONDERFUL. I have not had to take any medication since then!

I've been a vegetarian coming on a year now.... and I gained 15 pounds! I realized at some point that vegetarians should eat... vegetables? Ha ha As I am working my way through my weight loss journey I am trying to rely less on the carbs to fill my belly. I love the macronutrient analysis that MFP provides so I can make sure I have enough balance in my diet. It has been such a learning experience!3

I veryyyy recently became vegan because I have a multitude of digestive issues including lactose intolerance, gerd, diverticulitis, & a gluten intolerance (the only change is removing fish & poultry so not a big stretch) looking for more vegan / vegetarian friends to support each other.0

I am also transitioning to a vegan diet and will hopefully be green-blooded by the start of 2018. I have been pescatarian for 12yrs and presently limit dairy (though tomorrow is pizza day) and eat eggs from chickens I help raise. About 70% of my meals are vegan and I keep an open diary for friends, so feel free to add me for ideas.0

I am MOSTLY vegetarian leaning towards vegan (I still will eat the occasional sushi, but it's getting less and less often). I don't eat a lot of dairy and almost none at home, but still partake in butter occasionally and can't quite kick the cheese habit. Those are basically the only two types of dairy that don't cause issues with me digestion anyway.
I don't have anything near as severe as Crohn's, but when I'm eating well and mostly plant based, I feel SO much better and see a lot of improvements- better skin, fewer headaches, better stomach, better muscle recovery. All sorts of good things.0 -
Hello, it's awesome to see so many people giving a plant based diet a chance. I was diagnosed with crohns 20 years ago. I want to emphasize that for me, and everyone is different, I believe eating plant based has helped me keep it in remission for the last 15 years with no medication. Again, everyone is different, and bodies react different. But, I try to include as many anti inflammatory foods as I can in to my diet, control stress, and exercise. Best of luck to you. I just wanted to say being plant based and having crohns is doable.0

Pescitarian here though I was vegan for a year or so. Still eat a largely plant based diet but eat the occasional dairy/fish as a treat.

I recently switched to a plant-based diet. I was listening to book The 22-Day Revolution by Marco Borges and he made a great point that I'm going to sum up:
A vegan diet includes vegan processed junk food, a plant-based diet is a diet from plants. I was a vegetarian for 3 years in college and weighed the most I ever had. Loading up on pizza, pasta, rice, french fries, fake meat products, etc. is technically vegetarian (and sometimes vegan) but it's not healthy.
Now I'm doing it the right way and I feel amazing on a plant-based diet- my skin and hair are glowing. I have more energy, I'm more positive, and my workouts have improved. I'm probably 98% vegan/plant based and 2% human error/indulgence I don't want to deprive myself because I don't want this to be a diet trend but a whole lifestyle change.
Does it come from a plant? Eat it.
Is it made in a plant? Don't eat it.4 -
