Newbie

Hi everyone!

I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I will be starting omnitrition with my family in the next few weeks. My mom and aunts have been having excellent results with it so I'm hoping to see the same results.

My current diet is terrible. Constant eating out and sweet tea is a habit I need to break once again.

One problem I have that you may be able to help with, is I seem to eat by habit. What I mean is, I tell myself I'm going to change my diet blah blah blah. And I WANT to and I am willing to. But in the moment, with food in front of me, I don't THINK. I just do. If you were to ask me before I take a bite, do I want this food or be healthier? I'd pick healthier in a heartbeat but in the moment I don't think about that or even comprehend that I have these goals before I eat what's in front of me. How do you become more self aware?

Logging everything you eat is eye opening! You will understand a lot more about your intake after a week or so.

See if you cut can back on portion sizes or drink diet instead of sweet tea.

Just make small changes to your diet, nothing drastic.

Then after you logging for a bit, try pre-logging, and only eat what you've logged

Stock your fridge and pantries only with the foods you want to be eating. Taking away the convenience of eating unhealthily really helps.

I second logging. Also try breaking out a cup and measuring out your sweet tea; you might be surprised with how much you drink and how much sugar is in it. One eye opening experience for me was when my roommate, who weighed about 40 lbs less than me at the time at the same height, told me my cereal servings were double/triple what is on the box.

If you can't go cold-turkey on sweet tea, start by diluting sweet tea in water 2:1. Then 1:1. Then 1:2.

It takes time to get a feel for serving sizes and to break food addiction. It took me years. Be patient with yourself and focus on increasing your awareness.

Lastly, exercise goes a long way. Find something that you enjoy doing. I find that my food cravings are healthier when I'm more active, for some reason.
