I'm confused..,. When following MFP calorie counting and staying under the calories suggested a person loses 1-2 pounds a week with out worrying about the carbs. So, if that is all one is expected to lose when into the Keto diet, what is the point of doing keto?

Because you think it's a healthy diet, because you may feel better on lower carbs, because you have a reason to restrict carbs for health reasons.

1 or 2 pounds a week weight loss is not enough for you? Yes, you have to worry about the carbs.

Keto is not a magic recipe for weightloss, the calorie deficit is. That being said, for me, keto makes it a lot easier. Once you're in ketosis you drop your water weight and bloat, your appetite decreases and for most you have a lot more energy. Normal dieting always left me feeling hungry and I was miserable craving carbs and sugar. Being keto I usually have to just eat because I know I'm supposed to, not because I'm hungry. Due to the decreased appetite I've also incorporated intermittent fasting so my 1-2 meals a day are incredibly satisfying. It's not for everyone but those that stick to it usually enjoy it opposed to traditional dieting.

if you are insulin resistant or have diabetes, PCOS, or a neurological condition keto can help but if you're the average person it's not required for weight loss.

I do keto and aim for a 2 pounds a week loss. If I go over that, I up my calories. I want to be healthy, not obsess over a number like it has something to do with my worth as a person. Maybe chuck your scale for a bit if "the number" is all you're focused on until you can regain your perspective.

Diabetes Type 2 is rampant on my mother's side of family so that's why I'm on Keto. Plus, I feel amazing on it. I eat twice a day within a window similar to what other's have posted. Anecdotally, my PMDD symptoms are lessened (I'm assuming due to the amount of fat I ingest) and the weight I've lost is a boon.

    Also, because cheese!! :-)

I followed MFP numbers for years and the scale never budged. I went on keto and ignored the carb goal drastically (I don't go over 30 carbs and usually under 30 and I lost 15 lbs this month.

Maybe it doesn't work for everyone - but for me, absolutely. I am sticking with it.

Some folks are diabetics and find Keto helps get their blood sugar under control. Some people are more satiated by fats so Keto is a good way of eating for them. There's lots of reasons to eat Keto and lots of reasons not to. Do what works for you!

    Summary:

    1. Do keto if you have a medical reason to or feel like you don't want to count calories and still lose weight
    2. Maintain a consistent calorie deficit if you simply want to lose weight and have a wider variety of food available to you

Losing weight is ALWAYS calories in vs. calories out. Dropping carbs means weight loss only if you are taking in fewer calories. Apparently you weren't "following" MFP calories closely enough before.

Elimination diets can make measuring/logging calories easier for some people. Heck if you make the diet restrictive enough, you might not need to count calories at all. If keto gives you a solid foundation for maintenance, then it's worth it.

15 pounds is hopefully mostly water weight (glycogen stores) because your body can only metabolize so much fat a day.
