is it okay to workout at night then go to bed right after taking a shower? i go to the gym for about an hour everyday around 8:40pm -10pm (cardio for 40 mins, weights for the other 20 mins and rotate days for legs and upper body) just trying to drop weight for now. 160 goal weight 130. 5'4 26 years old. i use to workout in the mornings but my work schedule is different now. which is better??

There is no better...the time you workout is not particularly relevant to anything...if you burn 500 calories in the morning, it's the same as burning 500 calories in the PM...it's 500 calories. Workouts should be done when workouts can be done.
Personally, I can't sleep right after a workout...I need at least a few hours to wind down.9 -
I personally can't fall asleep right after working out. Even if I do, I have strange dreams:) try, see if you like it.1

I lift heavy 3 times a week from 8-1030pm, shower and go to sleep. It might not be ideal but it's when I'm free of my kids and chores3

It will not magically help or hurt your weight loss. You just need to try it and see if it works for you. I wouldn't be able sleep under those conditions either.1

It's really all about what will fit into your schedule and allow you maximum consistency, energy, and sleep. If night works best for your schedule, maybe end your sessions with some yoga, or deep stretching and breathing to cool down and wind down for sleep.

Do what works for you. Some have issues with restless legs or trouble falling asleep, but I find it actually helps me sleep. There is no bad time of day to exercise in my opinion.1

Thanks everyone. Just something I had wondered about. I sleep like a baby right after lol.4

If it works for you, go for it! I'm another one who wouldn't be able to sleep after, but if you can, more power to you.
In general, I am of the firm belief that, while there may be some scientific evidence which indicates that there may be advantages at working out at a particular time, every one of those potential advantages pales in comparison to working out at a time which suits you and your lifestyle, because that's what results in adherence, and adherence is what sees you meet your goals.3 -
If you sleep fine after then that's great! I can't sleep if I workout too late in the afternoon/night, but if I could I would totally do it.1

I sleep great as well after a workout0 -
this is what I do every single day.
Nothing beats falling asleep all warm and cozy and clean after an exhausting workout.1 -
I would rather try to do it in the morning because then I have a ton of energy. But that is just me though.1

i had a groove going where i'd lift in the early evening on my way home from work and then take a shower and flop out in my bathrobe and fall asleep waiting to dry off afterwards. i LOVED that sleeping, but most of the time i find myself too wrangy to fall asleep if i let normal evening stuff get in between me and that stage.0

This is what I do and get the best night's sleep. Do what works for you.0

I need an hour or more between a heavy weight training session and sleep time, or I simply don't sleep well.0

I always workout from 10pm til 11:30pm. That's when I have my most energy and I give it all. After that a shower feels amazing and I fall asleep straight away like a baby. Works differently for everyone. If it works for you, awesome! As many said above, a workout is a workout no matter if it's 10 am or 10 pm0

I hate early morning workouts but thrive on late evening ones - gym shuts at 10pm otherwise I would stay later.
Tends to help me sleep better and melts away any stress from the day.
Good workout and good sleep is a win/win for me.1 -
It's fine. As long as it doesn't impact your sleep, there's no real reason not too.0

I've been doing this for five years and it's great.0

I'll workout anytime i can get one in, doesnt matter, as far as the exercising goes.0
