Hey Nick,
I was diagnosed a type 2 diabetic also. But, after losing 200+ lbs I no longer take any meds. I hope everything works out for you. Welcome0 -
Cheers Dwilyums,
Result on the weight loss! that's some dedication.
Thanks for the welcome

Welcome Nick! I have type 2 diabetes too. My numbers are coming down the more weight I lose. My doctor says I will be off my medications next year.0

I'm closing in on 100 lbs lost, have been med free for over 6 months and loving life.
Type II isn't a death sentence if you take control back.
Best of luck to you.0 -
Thanks SK
I've not been given the meds yet as I need to see the specialist first - had a couple of heart attacks in '06 (was only 36) and it was then that I discovered I had metabolism issues - only need to lose about 30 pounds or so hopefully the meds will only be around for a little whileTake enough at the mo anyway

Hello and welcome to MFP!!
I, too, am a type 2 Diabetic. Like someone else said, it's not a death sentence. Consider it a wake up call.Hopefully, you are lucky enough to go through classes like I had to do. Because of the classes and MFP, I was taken off my Diabetic meds today because my A1C is 4.8! You can do this. I'm not saying it will be easy. You'll have setbacks and frustrations but it's how you treat them that matter. Don't let it cause you to throw in the towel. Don't be afraid to ask things. Don't be afraid to lean on people here.
The thing with Diabetes, you don't have to workout to the point you feel like you're going to die. I do, but that's me. If you can get used to doing 3 meals and 2-3 snacks, making sure to move (i.e. walking, cleaning, doing chores, working out, etc) after main meals, you'll use up the carbs in your body efficiently.
You don't have to go low carb and you don't have to give up anything. Just make sure it fits into your numbers and you can have it. Moderation.
Feel free to add me if you'd like.
Best wishes!!0
