Why does eating healthy cost so much?

I eat for about $5 a day. Cook all my own meals from scratch. I eat well, too. Chicken, turkey, shrimp, tuna, steak, hamburger, sausage, beans, fresh and frozen fruit and vegetables, yogurt, milk, cheese, eggs, butter, olive oil, salsa, spices, whole wheat bread, rice, oatmeal, pasta, nuts and nut butter. I don't buy drinks, I only drink water and coffee.
Look for meats on sale, and buy fruit and vegetables depending on what's on special. Stock up on cheese when it goes on sale. Same with pasta, there are specials usually once a month. Buy several when it's on sale.3 -

I think it depends on where you live and looking for deals. Here in South Korea, I can't buy one apple or one carrot for less than $1 each anywhere near me in Gangnam, so I buy a bag of frozen veggies from Costco for around $12 and frozen berries for around $18. Even though Costco Korea is usually double the USA prices, it's still the cheapest place around.0 -
Well it doesn't have to be expensive. You have to be willing to be aware of sales, coupons, and price match if possible. Many places even have online deals for their store. I don't eat all organic and I don't eat every fruit and veggie possible.. I make do with what I can afford.. And watch my portions. Sometimes you just have to make do with what you can afford and be creative0

budgetbytes is a fantastic website to get you used to cooking for yourself without breaking the bank! (It's not specifically health focussed, but a lot of the recipes are pretty healthy and generally cooking from scratch is a good start). If you look around there's lots of advice on the internet regarding cheaper ways to eat healthy. Good luck!0

It doesn't. I eat less food, so my grocery bill is a lot less.0

Because you are eating organic kale and quinoa from Whole Paycheck? Rice, dry beans, whole chickens, and in season produce are healthy too, but won't cost you more than $20 for a weeks worth of meals.1
