Weight Loss and Bipolar

hey!
Ive been trying to lose weight for a long time and now have stopped looking at the scale because I can actually see some changes/feel better in myself.
However, I have Bipolar and it's so difficult to stay motivated when my personality changes week by week and even can switch in an instant.
I would just like some friends on here who are active and post a lot and don't mind me posting about my feelings...I'm not trying to get other people down or anything!

Welcome! I was diagnosed with OCPD. Doesn't come with the symptoms of bipolar by any means, but definitely makes a lot of things more challenging. I am highly anxious and a creature of habit and routine. This helps me in a lot of areas of life, but when I hit a low... It's really low. I struggled with drinking, lost my job, etc. I also gained a ton of weight. I have found that the mind really needs to be healthy before anything else. HOWEVER, making the lifestyle changes that weight loss requires can go a long way for your mental state. I added you as a friend. Feel free to message me if you need any support! I know exactly how you feel was diagnosed 25 years ago. So i too struggle with my weight and just leaving my apartment or socializing in general. I keep it well hidden so no one in my small inner circle or my family even know. This is the best thing for me to count calories. It is my 2nd go and it does work you just have to stay with it. One even two bad days are no big deal just get back at it.3

I also was diagnosed 22 years ago and weight has been a struggle ever since. I have tried other weight loss programs with short term success but none of them ever really had the accuracy that mfp does with the calorie counting so I think this will eventually work if I can just stick to 1200 calories. My problem is the meds I am on cause a slow down in metabolism and an increase in appetite.1

I also have BP and it's soooo hard to stay on track when it comes to losing weight, I've struggled for years and my BP was only officially diagnosed six months ago. Some days I do really well, others it's a struggle to even get up in the morning. Totally here if you want to vent or need support!0

I have bipolar disorder myself, although I wouldn't say my personality changes.
I certainly relate to the difficulties of maintaining routines and motivation through the chaos of mood episodes and medication though.

I have bipolar as well, diagnosed officially in 2014, I was too afraid to say anything before that year. Each day I struggle with how I feel and it is very hard for me to concentrate on losing weight when I am either extremely high or extremely low, really motivated or hating myself for no reason. I know how you feel, I will definitely add you1

I've had Bipolar type 2 for 15 years, the to said it was ME, then 4 years ago my daughter was explaining how her colleague had Bipolar type 1 and as she explained what he did I recognised the similarities. So we all went to my GP and explained what we thought, he referred me to a mental health team and I had an assessment. Now I'm on 2 meds which help with the lows, due to my lack of activities, and drinking I put on weight, I'm now on a diet and cut my drinking to 14 units per week. I've lost 12lbs, and feel really upbeat. Cheers mick1
