Should I put in my own calorie amount or go by what MFP sets for me?

Not sure how many calories I should be eating daily for weight loss? With wanting to lose 35-40 lbs I'm not sure if I need to be focusing on certain macros now or when I get closer to my goal. I know that there are lots of calorie generators and equations to figure out what my needs are but is there one that is most helpful/accurate?

Put your stats into MFP for your calorie goal.

You are going to be counting using this site, so it is logical, when you start, to use the MFP format.

Those calories are without exercise. Eat to that goal, not under, it already includes your deficit. 1lbs a week will be good to start, once you get to 15 lbs or so to go adjust so you are losing at .5 lbs a week.

If you exercise log it and eat back at least a portion 50 or 75% is good until you get your logging accurate. Adjust those cals up or down until you are losing at your goal rate. Exercise calories are needed to fuel your exercise, which is for health, your deficit is in your base calories.

Use a food scale for accuracy. Your macros are mainly personal preference, unless you have medical reasons, but try to work to a nutritious diet with plenty of protein.

    Cheers, h.
