Keto Diet and Exercise makes the fat in my body cries!!!

Hello! My name is Darby I'm a 38 year old father of two who is an assistant Store Manager with Lowe's. I have been for years up and down with my weight maxing out at 207. I am 5'9" so this was an issue for me. I have most of my life been very athletic and able to stay pretty lean until about the time 30 hit. I had kids and doing sports and exercise was always pushed aside for good reason. I needed to take care of my kids. So I started packing on the weight. I have in those 8+ years had spurts where I have exercised and done anything from P90X, P90X 2, Insanity, and T25 all with really gods results. Then vacation or holidays happen and completely derail my progress! My mentality was "Oh, well I did it once I'll do it again after vacation or Christmas" but the holiday ran into months of putting it off. This the vicious cycle.
In this time I have never dedicated to a diet or proper way of eating to support my fitness. I would always give in to cravings or going out and having some beer or whatever else that helped lead to packing on the pounds again. My problem is I'm a picky eater and do not like many veggies or seafood so that leaves me with limited options. I would look at recipes and instantly push them away because of what was in it that I didn't like. It's really hard to eat healthy when your pallet is so empty! Or, so I thought!
Back on June 5th I was 197.8lbs and I decided to give up my 64oz daily habit of drinking Diet Dr Pepper! Talk about hard!! I started drinking only water. I get up and drink water and use my Star Wars Tervis that is 24oz to track my water intake daily. I noticed after a week I had again started losing weight with no real diet change or exercise! Heck yeah I thought. Then on the 8th my wife proposed us going on the Keto Diet. I wasn't really thinking anything of it. We had done South Beach which seemed like the same thing until I started. I started slow. I didn't track my food either. I wasn't trying very hard but was sticking to minimal carbs. In the first two weeks I saw some more weight loss. At this point I was down to 191lbs. I thought man this two weeks we easy I wonder what I can do if I really track my intake and focus on keeping carbs under 20g a day! I started on MyFitnessPal keeping a daily log of my meals and water. I noticed I was eating more than 20g of carbs fairly regularly. So I looked through my logs and noticed the cashews I was eating were high in carbs as were the peanuts and dairy products. I decided I would try cutting most of those out!
Man what a difference! In a week and a half I went from 191lbs to 180.4lbs!! I also at the same time started working out 4-5 times a week. My goal is to get to 170-165 by the end of August which back in June seemed like a huge tack but now it seems like I will beat my August end mark!! In the process I have realized that what I thought was a weight loss curse in my picky eating has now become a blessing! What I mean by that is being a picky eater has made it extremely easy for me to find a combination of foods that work in my Keto ratio and get the protein and fats while almost completely eliminating carbs! I now have a set daily meal plan that I know weeks out which eliminates trying to plan meals. I have been able to save a load of money because I get much less filler foods with hidden carbs in them that claim they are good for weight loss. It has made my dieting so much easier.
As great as my progress is going I still get cravings every once in a while! I really miss pizza, Chipotle burritos, Italian foods, and a lot of other things. I now have after a month and a week been able to adapt my mind to block out those cravings and focus on my goal. Knowing when I finally reach my goal I can then feel safe on occasion eating the occasional Chipotle burrito without feeling horrible because I have changed my eating habits and no longer crave glucose to function.
I feel clearer, more energetic, and proud of finally sticking to a diet for the first time ever!
I have written this to hopefully inspire, help, or motivate maybe one person who is struggling with weight to push past the issue and give it your full dedication! I promise you can do it as I continue to do it daily with the help of MyFitnessPal!

Congrats on your progress!! Just started Keto 3 days ago along with Intermittent fasting, I'm having some problems with keeping carbs low, The issue seems to be chia seeds and avocado. Any other advice on carb count and energy?1

I found the first week and a half my energy was really sapped while my body was adapting to burning my fat stores as opposed to glucose. Once I finally got into full ketosis man I felt an awesome burst of energy! I get up earlier can go all day without feeling groggy (I don't drink caffeine either) it's just a wonderful feeling.
Back to the carb counting though. I found the easiest thing for me was really read everything I purchased at the store. Which at first sucked because I was in the grocery store forever reading and comparing labels. But doing this and using the app I came to realize how many foods surprisingly have carbs! Eggs 1 carb, celery has carbs, romaine lettuce has carbs! There are so many foods that are healthy that have carbs. What I did was found foods I like with versions with little or no carbs. I to do intermittent fasting which helps a lot but makes it hard to get the calories you need daily.
So, what I do is three fasting, for regular diet. On my fasting days I don't eat until 4pm then cram in as much as I can until 9pm to try and get my calories to 1750 for the day. I will start with a salad of romaine lettuce and real bacon bits and Walden Farms dressing (no carbs, fat, sugar, nothing but taste great) then I will have Pepperoni as a snack (great fat source no carbs) most pack say 14-16 slices per serving I do 2-4 servings a day. Then I will have 2-3 brats with yellow mustard. Then some celery plain. I will also drink around 2 gallons of water a day! Some Roth flavor additives with electrolytes to keep those up. Then I have recently introduced sugar free jello! Oh my goodness what a blessing! Feed the sweet craving but doesn't change carbs or anything. It is basically empty calories which help me reach close to 1750 a day.
My non fasting days I will basically do the same diet but spread out and adding bacon, eggs, and beef.
I feel full most of the time and there are times I have to force myself to eat! But it is working and I am sticking to with it!!
I hope that helps a little.7 -

first of all congrats on the loss, secondly I am not knocking keto in any way.10lb in two weeks for some will be too aggressive and with keto if you are just starting out you will lose mostly water and glycogen at first. as for burning fat you do that in a deficit no matter if you do keto or not. keto is fueled by dietary fat.Thats why its low carb high fat(and moderate protein).
just so everyone knows keto is not a magical way to lose weight/fat you still have to be in a deficit and it doesnt burn fat stores like most think(again thats where the deficit comes in).as for feeling weak and sluggish thats called keto flu and to prevent that you need to up your sodium to 3000-5000mg,and get enough magnesium and potassium to get electrolytes back into balance from all the water and glycogen lost. so supplements may be needed.
like evey other diet though the weight loss for many will slow down. 5lbs a week is not healthy unless you are over say 300 lbs(even then it could be too much for some). the most you should be trying to lose is 2lbs a week and thats if you have over 75lbs to lose. too fast of weight loss can result in losing lean mass(this includes muscle), gall bladder issues(like gall stones) hair loss, loss of libido, hormone issues and so on.It may not happen at first but can down the road.
weight loss is a marathon and not a sprint.

Hi I'm starting tomorrow, just reading stuff and making a shopping list. I'd like to lose 24lbs. I did it about 8 years ago on Lighter Life, but not being able to exercise as much as I used to the weight has very slowly crept back on and now I'm menopausal it seems so hard to lose any. I'd appreciate any tips from other ladies of 'that age' as I heard that this diet is also good for some of the symptoms too.1

Hi guys... I know that I'm really late to the challenge but I'd like to stay connected and join in. My name is Sam, I'm 38 and a doctor. Married, have 2 cats and love travelling, gardening and food.
I've had issues with hypoglycaemia since I was a young child, which has improved significantly as I've grown older. My biggest problem by far is my crazy craving for carbs. I am a total carb junkie so it's been really tough with managing my weight.
I've stopped pasta, rice, biscuits, crisps etc but my Achilles heel is bread.2 -
I had an accident 8 years ago, damaging my lower back. I've suffered with severe pain ever since. I coped with the pain by eating rubbish,so the weight piled on. That combined with my inability to exercise was a disaster. I have 30kg to lose. That's what I want to achieve. I started exercising this week, my weight is 104.8kg. My husband has promised a holiday abroad to a place of my choice for every 10kg I lose2

Hello! I just saw this post so I guess I'm a late comer too. I started keto about a week ago and although its difficult to make the changes (like you said, having to read labels and all with such scrutiny), its been amazing! I read The Bulletproof Diet and am reading Hashimoto's Protocol because I was diagnosed with it in March. I refuse to accept that I have to take a pill for the rest of my life because any autoimmune disorder stems from three things: gut permeability, infection or toxins. Living a keto lifestyle eliminates so many of the foods that cause sensitivities and inflammation not to mention helps the body feel satisfied as opposed to feeling restricted. Fat does not make you fat if its good fat and eaten the right way. Seems backwards and contrary to all the hype we hear everywhere about avoiding fat but if we listened to all that, we could never eat anything! No fat, no carbs and no sugar = no energy and a host of other problems. While there is no magic formula that works for every person, the principles can be applied to anyone. Each person is different. We each have diff goals, diff lifestyles, diff work schedules, etc. Educating oneself on the true science behind how these diet changes actually work and how our bodies process food is the key to making the right changes for any one person. Good for you for doing what works for you and for sharing your progress! I am on board!! Count me in!2

Hi! I just started a low carb diet on Wednesday, August 2nd. I'm 5'4 and started at 154 lbs which is the most I've ever weighed in my life! Today, August 6, I weigh 151 so I'm losing on this diet already. I'd like to stay in this chat for support. My goal weight range is 129 lbs to 132 lbs.0

I restarted the Keto diet last thursday. I am diabetic and have reduced my insulin from 100 units per day to 0 units per day. I did this a couple of years ago and had the same results. i didn't lose much weight but have found Butter Bob and his videos have given me real insight into why most people on the high fat low carb diet don't lose weight. This time i am following his recommendation and eating only when i am hungry and using fasting as part of the diet. one day i just ate on meal and several days i have eaten two meals. like he says, just because you can eat 3 or 4 times a day doesn't mean you have to.0
