Today's lesson: have fun & manage calories

Something important learned today.
It's ok to have a day everynow and then where you're slightly over in calories and you have eaten a lot of treats.
Family day - 10 for a BBQ (& 3 dogs). UK - so as is traditional it rained.
Eaten burger , bun , sausage , coleslaw, cranachen (double cream ,oats, honey & whisky). Drank prosecco. Tea was Earl grey tea and coffee cake (small slice).
So 100 calories over - although all the preparing and serving and washing up must have burnt some calories that I haven't measured.
You know what.! A lovely day. No real damage done. Tomorrow back to more balanced / healthier food choices.

    Exactly we all have bad days, it's getting back on track that really counts ;)

    A quote often used by someone that used to come here more often was something along the lines of "the few bad days of eating too much amount to nothing, but the hundreds of days that surround those bad days do". And I completely agree.

    When I was in my loss phase I had a day of 7000+ calories. I hit almost my goal in alcohol consumption that day. I was below goal and lost weight for the week.

    Whoa, back up -- what's the thing with the whiskey? Is that a drink or a pudding type thing?

    It's a Pudding.
    It originates from Scotland- traditionally eaten on Burns Night.
    I'm on the South coast of England. Chose to do this dessert as it's simple & delicious. Had 10 people and 3 dogs for family do. You can pre- prepare the cream mixture and then just assemble with raspberries when ready to serve.
    It all got eaten !!!! Obviously high in calories - but once in a while .....

    I've had to work to gain this attitude. For the longest time, every time I had a bad day, I let it get to me, and I'd start to question if I had the strength to lose weight if I couldn't control myself, which in turn led to me believing that I couldn't control myself so I might as well eat whatever, which then made me feel bad, and on and on the cycle continued.

    But you're right, one day is not the end of the world. We should be able to treat ourselves every so often and not let it affect our overall attitude to losing weight. We should try to make this journey as fun as possible for ourselves, because we're more likely to achieve our goal that way.

    And at the end of the day, how much more fun did you have yesterday than if you'd obsessed over every single calorie and picked at a bit of salad while watching everyone else enjoy the fruits of your labour?

    Finally, I bloody love Cranachan.

    100 calories over goal? Holy *kitten*, how did that happen?

    Honestly though, great attitude about it. It's a good thing you don't see my logs...heh. I've had a nice 1000 or so calorie deficit through the months of loss (45 pounds now) and I miss by more than that all the time. I also undershoot a lot. I might be +700 one day, -800 the next, -1250 the next, +450 the next, etc.

    Guess what? It still works! (I know that wouldn't work for everyone, but for me, just the freedom of knowing what's going in by careful measuring/weighing has been all I need).
