Situation: Pizza

Tomorrow, I will be spending a fair bit of the day packing and moving 2/3rd of my stuff into a storage container with the help of friends. Since we're graduate students, the best way to pay them back is to take them to get pizza at a nearby pizza joint. I realize I'm over thinking this, but how would you handle this situation? Eat one/two piece(s) and get a salad, watch your friends eat pizza and eat something at home later?

Suggestions?

What about a slice and a salad? Can you have a little snack before you go... A power bar or something? Extra water too?

Eat the pizza. If you are moving all day, then it shouldn't affect your calorie intake too much. Plus, I believe in the "cheat meal" every once in a while.

^this. Get thin crust if they have it. And veggies, Canadian bacon, etc.

Big salad! And eat the salad first while waiting on the pizza. Then when the pizza gets there you will be happy with a slice or two. I used to just eat pizza, and lots of it, and when I tried this trick it was amazing how satisfied I was with one or two slices, plus I felt better having gotten the nutritional benefits of the salad.

I guess it would be hard for me because I havent really worked myself into just having something small like that yet. I'm either ALL in or ALL out!! Usually all in though and thats why I'm so big. I guess if your able to exercise moderation, go ahead and have a couple of slices. Just make sure to log it into your Diary!!! Very important!!

Thanks, all! I think I will have a slice or two with some salad! I've been using this 80 bites app on my ipod that lets me track 25 bites per meal. I think that as long as I pay attention to hunger signals and really enjoy the one or two pieces that I'm eating, we should be okay.

Wait, I should sound more confident: I will *MAKE* it okay. :-)

Canadian bacon, ask for light cheese, think crust. If you don't like Canadian bacon, try just veggies with light cheese and thin crust. Eat 2 pieces but eat them slow. If you finish them and REALLY think you are hungry (after 2 pieces of pizza and a salad) then have another slice or a half of one. It won't kill you especially if you are moving stuff all day. Eat a lot of salad with amount of dressing before you eat the pizza. Also avoid sodas or beer that often come along with eating pizza.

Or just ignore all that and eat the pizza. It's just one day and if you won't feel guilty about it later go ahead :)

But can you really call it pizza if it has no cheese? At that point, it's bread with veggies. :-)

pack your own lunch. pizza is practically empty calories! no nutrition and barely filling for the amount you could afford to eat. put some yummy healthy food into your body :) pizza isnt worth it!

Absolutely! Grilled chicken is my favorite topping... good way to add protein without the grease of the more traditional pizza meats.

I have pizza at least once a week, and it has never hurt my progress. And I don't believe in thin crust or no cheese. That's not pizza. That's a cracker!
  • Agreeing with most everyone, eat the pizza. If you deprive yourself too much you'll go crazy. Put in an extra workout, order thin crust with lots of veggies, drinks lots of water, and order a side salad. We're all losing weight to better our lives and we have to think realistically. Add it into your calories and don't let it get you off track for other meals. Enjoy!

depends what you mean by pizza.
If its like a dominos type proper greasy pizza, then limit it, but i often have pizza express type pizza, and i dont see it as particularly unhealthy

I agree with the salad idea... BUT.... I work in a restaurant and I see people who *think* they are eating healthy by getting salad and literally drowning it in dressing!! A HUGE no-no!! I make my own dressing with red wine vinegar and spices, almost no calories (it's OK to bring your own dressing)!! I would also limit myself to two pieces of pizza. You are moving and working hard so it's OK to indulge a bit, but get right back on the healthy eating the next day!! Actually, I would have some fruit at home and eat some of that if I was still hungry. Good luck with the move and your new, healthy lifestyle.
